Laurel Hill Cemetery

This 100-acre cemetery has an array of resplendent funerary monuments, including small Victorian palaces, art nouveau sarcophagi and pre-Raphaelite stained glass.

Wonderful place to visit, alone or with others, and 100% free. Location is on a high bluff overlooking the river. Well-maintainer paths, grounds, wide variety of beautiful (mostly) 19th century graves and mausolea. I highly recommend the app for a self-guided tour but there are also guided tours. Visit the shop for friendly staff, info and gifts. Re getting there, I took a train from central city up not too far and caught a bus through north Philly, took about 30 minutes. Not the most scenic route but fine. (if you’re driving, there is parking across the street.)

Gettysburg National Cemetery

Reviewed By egp522 - Ipswich, United States

I attended the 6:00pm Ranger Program, which reviewed the history of the cemetery, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, the monument at the center, and a few stories about individual soldiers buried in the plots. Our LBG (Jon F., I believe) did an incredible job! He clearly knew his stuff and has taken the time to research and memorize writings of note. He was very attentive to the need to be respectful of the property. The tour lasted about an hour, and was well worth standing in the heat for. It was a great way to get as much information as possible and feel a personal connection by hearing the stories of those buried on the property. If you visit the cemetery, I highly recommend hopping on one of these tours.

National Cemetery of the Alleghenies

Reviewed By brokeheart

My Brother-in-Law was buried here in July and it was my first time at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. I was speechless! What a fitting tribute to those who have served our country. Because of there sacrifices, we enjoy our freedom. I only wish I would have thanked him personally while I had the chance. These brave Men and Women paved the way for us to live the lives we do. Make some time, visit for the day and honor these true heroes for what they have given us.

Sewickley Cemetery

Reviewed By Expedition693677 - Pittsburgh, United States

This sparsely visited location is situated high atop a hill near the Sewickley hospital. You will definitely get a real workout of 2+ miles. Half of it is all uphill. You will need to Ben in moderate shape to walk this adventurous route. The views and serenity make it worthwhile. You’ll see famous Pittsburgh family names and monuments stretching back to the Civil War, WWI and a tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII. It’s a very beautiful location. Afterwards, you can refuel at one of the many coffee shops or restaurants in downtown Sewickley.
