Te Henui Cemetery

This is an absolute must visit. Wonderful informative chat with Susan one of the fabulous volunteers. Every town & city should do this. So beautiful with all the flowers, shrubs & statement trees among the grave sites. The hard work of the volunteers is evident in every aspect. So much respect for all their hard work.

We left the Botanical Gardens and stumbled upon this historic cemetery on our walk back to the waterfront. Very interesting to see the old tombstones of the early settlers.

Visited here last weekend. Very peaceful and well maintained old cemetery. Just a short ferry ride across the harbour from Whitianga (or you can take the longer route and drive).

Symonds Street Cemetary

Reviewed By jeanettem190 - Cairns, Australia

Just near the far end of Queen St you'll find this cemetery. It's larger than you might think & you'll have to cross the street to see all the sections, segregated by religious conviction: Anglican, Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, etc. The cemetery's well cared for & many of the inscriptions are still legible. As you arrive / leave check out the very grand, ornate Victorian Public Toilets. It's remarkable how much effort the Victorians went to when it comes to public buildings!
