It ranks high on TA reviews and no wonder!! The warm welcome from the chatty gent and friendly service staff was a harbinger of good things to come. There are set meal options, complete with wine, all for a sensible price. Our starters: meat stew; seafood pasty with a large prawn; mains: pork loin; grilled cuttlefish/scallop; desserts: recuit (Catalan Mel y mato); créeme brûlée. Each dish was well presented and delicious. Portions were huge! What a gem of a restaurant! I truly enjoyed our meal at Cal Tronc and would return in a flash!!!

This restaurant looks quiet and understated from the outside, but it was by far some of the best food that we ate while in Besalu! The waiter/owner was very friendly and helpful. He recommended some of his favourite dishes to us, all of which were delicious. We ordered the Padron peppers, Anchovies, fish of the day, lamb dish, and a yummy coffee pie for dessert. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a reasonable but tasty meal while in Besalu.

Excellent menu offering both traditional and modern takes on catalan specialties. Not an overwhelming choice but enough to make it very difficult to prioritise.Setting of the restaurant is at the foot of the medieval bridge over the El Fluvia river with a beautifully decorated terrace.Strongly recommend for a gastronomic experience and/or special evening out.

Arriving at 8:30 pm we were graciously given a ten minute tour of the whole place, in French, our native language,I'm! sure they speak English equally well. The architecture is quite striking, wth the most beautiful banquet facilities ever! The food is quite locavore, with this meal featuring a lot of local buckwheat. (saraceno) It costs 95 euros and the wine pairingg another 50 or so. Wines generously poured and well chosen. Very kind and attentive service.Very good meal for vegetarians. Only one meat dish.

This restaurant is a pleasant surprise in the middle of the Garrotxa, we have been able to reserve a table on the same Sunday calling at 1:30 p.m. by 3:30 p.m., and it may be the most surprising it was to reach and see the capacity they have to serve nearby of 300 people. In spite of that, we have had an almost intimate experience, a home-made and almost amorous meal apart from tasty. It shows the experience of many years in the restoration and know how to offer quality of the products of the earth through traditional and non-expired presentations. We have had a menu of 22.90 + extras that has been unlikely in a Sunday restaurant in Catalonia.

It was Sunday lunchtime. We wandered around town searching for a bite but everywhere looked grim. Finally, we stumbled upon this restaurant. What a treat! Despite our dishevelled appearance the waiter took us through a very large dining room to a beautiful corner table. It was cool, the linen was fresh, the glasses polished and the cutlery gleamed. The menu is exciting. Lots of options and very well priced. We opted for the tasting menu which did not disappoint. Dish after dish of original and interesting flavour pairings. We couldn't believe our good luck....this restaurant turned a boring Sunday into a memorable highlight of the week. Plus, the staff were very happy to speak English as our Spanish could not cope with the intricacies of the menu.

The best restaurant in Malgrat!!! Chicken is absolutely delicious, tasty and freshly cooked on the huge rotisserie. The atmosphere is lively and truly a typical Spanish experience. Staff and service is excellent and all the dishes including the Parma ham is a culinary experience. Very reasonably priced too. The staff all speak English and provide a warm welcome. The locals were very inclusive and suggested tasty dishes. A definite culinary experience.

The restaurant is a clean place with a nice decoration... You can eat at the terrace or inside... Large gardens around the restaurant. It's also a bar to go to have a drink and have the children there playing all afternoon and parents talking relaxed

The owner is lovely, and the food is noticeably local and organic. Try the lamb, probably the best i’ve had! Really dont understand any of the negative reviews. We stopped here after a hike through the Garrotxa national park and found the place packed on a late Sunday afternoon. The food was really good, quite traditional and the service could not have been better. (Especially considering how busy the place was and our waitresses English matched our Spanish - none!) Anyway, we are big fans of trying new things and everything we got off the menu was good - from seafood dishes to salads to pork dishes. Wash your meal down with a local wine or beer and you have a great way to spend an afternoon.Ps - portions were American size.
