Lovely set up and amazing staff

this is a lodge/tent set up in the middle of the sand dunes so travellers do have to adjust the expectations vs normal hotels in built up cities In my one night stay the set up was adequate to cater for guest travel needs despite the challenging conditions The tent was spacious, clean with lights mirror, toilet, bathroom and dressing area There was no hot water but they use solar panels and it’s middle of the sand dunes so I can live with cold water for a night There were plenty of activities to keep us busy - sand board , ATV with 2 safety guides, walking around the sand dunes or just chilling on the lounge area. I liked the fact the atv guides stopped to talk to local villages along the way and helped to pass items from one place to another and saying hi - we didn’t want to seeM as if we were just a bunch of tourists zooming by with noisy machines They also took us on a short tour to see how they grew their crops in this Arid landscape In the evenings there was a really nice entertaining band and fire performance before dinner Dinner was fast and efficient - crabs and warm vegetable soup for starters , chicken and rice for main course and orange chocolate cake. You can choose to eat indoors or outdoors Stars at night were amazing How much joy from simplicity All the staff were accommodating, attentive and check on us regularly I didn’t speak much French but they took the effort to make sure I was ok even with the language barrier Everyone was cheerful and smiley and I do recommend as a nice weekend getaway Just don’t expect tv, bathrobe, bathtub and coffee machine

Campement Lodge Ocean & Savane

A calm and quiet place where you can practice sport and activities is expecting you. This small and charming “campement”, perfectly integrated in its environment is located on a strip of sand between River Senegal and Atlantic Ocean. It is about 20 km away from Saint-Louis, former capital of Senegal. Breaking for a while the stressful urban rhythm, walking along the beach or the waterside, here it is possible!

Worst experience in Saint-Louis!

Reviewed By YourLocalNomad

A friend who used to go to the lodge often for an afternoon drink followed by dinner suggested we do the same when we were in Saint-Louis. After driving for an hour from La Residence where we were staying (Ocean & Savane is very far from the main island and the bulk of the road was a dirt road back then), we arrived on-site just in time to catch the sunset. As we were walking towards the gate, a lady who was either the manager or the owner parked right by the door, jumped out of her car and started yelling at us: "We don't want people like you here!, "Go back to wherever you came from!", "We only allow civilized people in!". A friend and the lady started screaming at each other as the rest of us were all in shock... I remained calm the whole time and tried to understand why this lady was vociferating these atrocities to us but she was so angry and hysterical that she couldn't even voice why. She then turned back to my friend and yelled that she was "dressed like a whore" and that we should "aller voire ailleurs", which literally translates to "go see somewhere else" but means "go f*** yourself". Then she said she would "call the Gendarmes" (a special police unit) if we didn't vacate the premises and that we "played loud music the whole way there like savages". Now, I want to give this lady the benefit of the doubt, but it's hard to think of a reason other than she saw a group of young black people playing music (in their own car!) and didn't like it. It's hard to think that this wasn't racially motivated. In any case, this should never happen to clients or anyone else for that matter. The security guard at Ocean & Savane was very unphased by the lady's despicable behavior. He was trying to find excuses for her, first saying that she had "a long day" but then saying "she was under a lot of stress". As if he was used to her throwing tantrums. Upon returning to La Residence, still shocked by our encounter, we found the hotel's owner in the lobby and told him about it. He feined compassion but didn't seem surprised at all. We later learned that La Residence and Ocean & Savane are owned by the same family. We're all well-educated, well-behaved, and well-spoken people. And had we not been, it still wouldn't condone such appalling behavior. My friend who used to go there often was with us and he's never had issues there. On the contrary, he brought them a lot of clients because he'd invite all his friends who visiting to catch the sunset there. This was such a traumatizing experience. Wouldn't want that to ever happen to anyone.

Highly reccommend! Peaceful, beautiful rooms, like at home feeling

Reviewed By Dana V

We spend 3 nights here with a 2 years old. We liked everything about this place: how it looks - many flowers and nice colors, the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, the fact that we could use the kitchen, the French style breakfast offered there. The place is fine to keep a child busy - lizards, stones, ... Mostly we liked the Popenguine beach - we were usually the only people there, later some locals used to arrive - it was easy to access with a taxi for 100 cfa or to walk there. One should definitely see this beach, it has a village and an undiscovered feeling, unlike Somone.

My best experience in Ziguinchor!

I really enjoyed staying at Camping Casamance. I came here on my way to Guinea Bissau. The embassy was really close and there were different dining possibilities in walking distance - even with live music ! The room itself was clean and the wi-fi worked perfectly. The air condition was great and there was a lot of shade by different palm trees that really helped to ease the heat a bit. Also, we were able to have a hot shower which was really refreshing. The camping is secured at night and me and my friend felt very safe at all times. It was also a calm night and we slept very well in our comfortable bed with a big mosquito net. I also needed to work on my thesis and I was able to do it without any hassle because the plugs and a table with chair were provided in my room. The breakfast was very delicious and Rokhaya helped with all my questions. Everyone I met at the Camping was really friendly and made this very short stay a pleasant memory. I will definitely stay here again when I am in Ziguinchor next time! Thanks to the team of Camping Casamance of providing a little green heaven :)
