We were staying at xuanmai guest house so decided to try the cooking class. Ms Ngoc was very flexible and we chose an afternoon when we were free. We chose to cook 2 dishes (price 30, 000Kip for the two of us. More for more dishes) We cooked caramelised fish (Vietnamese) and sea food Pat Thai. We prepared them ourselves under supervision with excellent instructions from Ms Ngoc. We now plan to cook the food for our friends when we return from holiday and she promised we could message her with any questions. Highly recommend

Wat Phu

The religious complex of Vat Phou, a combination of Khmer architecture and Hindu religion, is located at the foot of Champasak mountains, with the Phou Kao (the sacred mountain with a natural form as a Linga - symbol of Gof Shiva). This complex was built during the first part of the 11th century, with some additions and reconstructions in the 12th and 13th centuries. Some inscriptions belonging to the fifth and sixth century AD do mention a sanctuary built on the hill, together with the foundation of the city, but this building has disappeared and was replaced by the religious complex that we see today. A museum and interpretative room should be visited on the site. Vat Phou is on the list of Unesco World Heritage since 2001. The archeological restauration/conservation of the site is managed by Vat Phou office. The tourism management is managed by Yingchokchai Company, which provides to the tourists quality services (shuttle, toilets, handicrafts shop, coffee shop, wifi, parking...).

If you visited Angkor before Vat Phu, you will certainly be a little disappointed. Nevertheless, the surroundings of the temple are beautiful and the site is much less touristic than Angkor. Go there early in the morning: you will avoid the crowds and take benefit of cooler temperatures to visit the temple. A must do in Laos!

A great bike ride along the bumpy road to this huge passing of the river through the rocks. To the left carry on down to a fantastic relaxed restaurant bar with huts to sit and listen to the falls before heading down to the beach and a swim in the river.

Dok Champa Massage

My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Pakse staying at the Pakse Hotel (Review to follow) and - on asking where was the best place to go for a massage - we were literally directly across the street to Dok Champha Massage. We duly did so and booked afternoon appointments for which we were most grateful as on our return the place was not only fully booked but actually turned away half a dozen or so clients whilst we were having our one hour foot/leg messages which at Kip70,000 (US$7 approx) was excellent value for money. As for the massages themselves, they were both very good - so good in fact we have booked repeat ones for tomorrow! We would certainly recommend Dok Champa to others and - based on experience - they won’t be disappointed!!

My wife and I recently rented a scooter from Miss Noy's for 3 days to visit the Bolaven plateau. Excellent service from Yves started months before with fast responses to the reservation and follow up questions. The information session provided by Yves the night before was both very informative and funny. We were given their new pink Mickey Mouse scooter, which resulted in more humorous interactions with the local Lao people over the 3 day trip. The bike worked fine with no hassles whatsoever. Upon our return Yves booked our onward tuk tuk transportation to our hotel in the next town. I thought I paid Yves for just the scooter rental. Upon arrival at our destination I paid our tuk tuk driver. That night Yves tracked us down at our hotel and said we had already paid him for tuk tuk so we had paid twice. He asked our hotel to give us the overpayment back and he would compensate them when they were in Pakse next. Now that's an honest business man and another reason why you should trust your motorbike rental to Miss Noy's. Merci beaucoup Yves.
