Rayong (Thai: ระยอง, pronounced [rā.jɔ̄ːŋ]) is a city (thesaban nakhon) on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand. It covers the tambon Tha Pradu and Pak Nam and parts of tambon Choeng Noen and Noen Phra, all within Mueang Rayong district. As of 2016 the population was 64,256 (Est.). The main industry is fishing, and it is the main producer of Thailand's fish sauce. It is also the center of the chemical and auto industries. In 2012 Ford Motor Company opened an assembly plant in Rayong to expand Ford's presence in the ASEAN area, employing some 2,200 people.

While locked down for six months in Jomtien, we were always looking for day trips and after a short day at the beach as showers drove us off we headed over to Rayong and decided to take in the Aquarium. Glad we did and most interesting, and a very reasonable entry fee. While not large, it was very well laid out, and innovative as to how fish and coastal animals were displayed. It gave one a good idea of some of the Marine life on this area of the Thailand Coast. If in the area, I would put it on the to do list for sure. This place is specual as there is Left sided reclining Buddha which normally are right sided. Must visit here if you coming to Rayong!

Loved the beach with many deck chairs and lovely breeze. Many options for local food and coffee. Each deck chair costs only 20 THB and is WORTH EVERY PENNY!! Highly recommended for a lazy saturday afternoon.

This area of town was once a bustling waterway trading hub which lost its significance in modern times. Some years ago the local community decided to revive the street. Nowadays the streets are lined by 100-200 years old beautiful houses. Wooden Thai houses, Chinese stone houses, French colonial style houses many of them with antique shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants inside. There is also a small community museum.
