Edessa Waterfalls

Reviewed By lucianm2013 - Constanta, Romania

Edessa Waterfalls is the most prominent landmark of the town. The waterfall is generated by the River Edesseos which cross the town and, in a very well organized park, offers to everybody this spectacular … show. Well, it’s a show indeed because if you are patient enough to admire the water you will notice a lot of new admirable images in motion! There are terraces connected by stairs from where you can admire the waterfall from different levels. There is even access behind the waterfall which offers a unique perspective and feeling about the beauty of the nature. Definitely, a place to visit while you are in Edessa.

Archaeological Museum of Pella

Reviewed By Velouria101 - East Sussex, United Kingdom

We visited the site at Pella first to avoid being outdoors in the hottest part of the afternoon (it was 38 degrees) and didn't feel that was a disadvantage. This lovely museum brings the site into vivid life, packed with superb artefacts that are incredibly well-preserved (we loved the little figurines that still had their pigment after millennia in the ground) and very intimate - you get a real sense of life for the ordinary citizen, as well as the rich (who are of course well-represented with splendid and exquisite gold burial wreaths and jewellery. ). The standard of craftsmanship on even the most everyday objects is truly incredible. Sadly due to COVID having effectively killed off Greece's whole tourist season, we had the whole museum to ourselves, which though an incredible privilege also felt wrong. This place should be buzzing with visitors, and I'm sure that under normal circumstances it would be. A special mention to the lovely friendly lady in the museum cafeteria, who on top of our much-needed toasted sarnies, presented us with a delicious free plate of peaches and fresh figs, which were absolutely delicious. Thank you so much.

Byzantine Bridge Kioupri

we loved our stay in Edessa, plenty to see and we easily walked around the town and to the various sights including this gorgeous bridge which can still be walked over. The river under it leads down through the town so the walk back is very pleasant

This is a darling old Town where all the buildings are made of stone. There is a small square and many restaurants, bars and some small shopping. We loved our time here ( 3 days) and used to to visit Pozar( hot springs) and a trip to the ski resort. Word come here again!

Pay a visit to the museum first, to get to know more about the history of Pella as capital of the ancient Macedonian Kingdom, about Philip the II and Alexander the Great and then wander at the archaeological site where you can admire the beautiful mosaics and the energy of the ancient city. It 's only 40 km away from Thessaloniki, it would be a shame to miss such an opportunity. The site is especially lovely in Spring.
