In the middle of the city of Aiken, SC lies a beautiful 2000 acre urban forest. It is a delightful pine and hardwood forest with many trails perfect for horseback riding or hiking. Dogs are welcome also. During the hunt season, hunt clubs ride every Saturday. Hitchcock Woods is a blessing to Aiken!

This is a fun activity - my daughter has been twice w/ friends and enjoyed it immensely both times. You go online to their website and make reservations, then show up at your appointed time. It is about one hour. it is a great place to go to for some fun.

This former Winter Colony home is a lovely and historic setting to see many exhibits about the history of Aiken and surrounding area. Nicely done. Friendly docents. Worth a visit.

The Visitors Center, located on the first floor of the rebuilt Aiken Railroad Depot, can assist you with any questions you may have, contains maps and brochures of the area, a calendar of events and more. The Train Museum, located on the second floor, has nine dioramas that depict the towns, as they were in 1916, along the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company right of way. This railroad became the first designed steam powered commercial railroad in the US and the longest railroad in the world. These dioramas are done in the familiar HO scale and are complimented by interactive displays depicting railroad history. The Aiken Trolley Tour also departs from this location every Saturday at 10 am. Private trolley tours for groups of 15 or more may be available upon request.

The Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum celebrates the great tradition of racing and Aiken’s vital role in it. Forty Champion Thoroughbreds have trained at the famed Aiken Training Track. The Hall of Fame immortalizes each in the Iselin’s charming, old carriage house. The Hall of Fame features both flat racers and steeplechase horses, from 1942 through the present. Photos, trophies and other memorabilia highlight these outstanding horses.

This was an interesting visit to appreciate the history of horses in Aiken. The docent was friendly and provided historical information. They had displays about jockeys, horses and the history of horses in Aiken. Small but nicely arranged museum. The setting in Hopelands Gardens was also worth a stroll around.

I had the pleasure of coming here last month back in October and what a unique candy shop it is and when trying to find your favorite pieces of candy or even to try some ice cream. Loved the peanut brittle I bought and next time I come to the sweet shoppe I'll be sure to try the truffles especially the Tiramisu, Red Velvet, Irish Cream, and Amaretto.

We really enjoyed this state park! Coronavirus had hit and we already had our reservations so we were allowed to stay in the park. Danny our camp host helped out so much. We stayed in campsite 24 it was very level We have rear living and the back did face the road which was a one way around the park I worked out ok since the park was relatively empty. However we walked around and noted the best sites in our view were 8 and 10 and 13. The hiking trail was great and there is a paved almost 3 mile loop or road around the park which is great for a walk or bike ride. We look forward to going to this one again!!
