Landa Park

Park that features paddleboats and train rides; great for families.

Landa Park is located in New Braunfels, on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. The crystal clear Comal River runs through the 51-acre Park, and is home to many types of water fowl, including ducks and geese. Shaded by ancient live oak trees, Landa Park features walking paths, a golf course, a putt-putt course and a miniature train that will thrill any child. You will likely see deer hanging about the park, but please don’t feed them or the water fowl. It is against the local laws. Landa Park also features an arboretum, with lovely trees and plants coloring the site. You can walk, jog, splash in the wading pool, ride the train or just visit with friends. Dogs are welcome, on leash.

Lost Maples State Natural Area

An excellent park to view fall foliage while walking the Maple and East Trails.

Reviewed By wanderingcajunlady - Texas, United States

We visited the second week of November to hike and view fall foliage. We were lucky to have reserved day passes on a beautiful day, in the peak of colors. We were glad to have made our reservations early and in advance, because the park will sell out of day passes weeks to months in advance in the fall. We choose afternoon entrance, and if you choose it, please make sure you have enough time to do whatever activitiess you choose, especially hikes. We hiked the Maple Trail, then proceeded on to the East Trail, then East-West trail for a round trip circle of 4 miles. The hike took us 3 hours with minimal stop times. The most beautiful part of the trail is the Maple Trail if you are wanting to see fall colors. The East Trail and East-West were mostly rocky, uphill, steep and strenuous. Be sure you allow enough time to make it out before dark. You do not want to be navigating these steep incline/decline trails in the dark. We started at 2:30 pm and barely made it out before dark around 5:30. Also, be aware there is no cell service in this area. It's very remote, and you will likely not have any service, so prepare in advance. We enjoyed this hike very much, and the park is stunning in the fall.

Inks Lake State Park

A 1,200-acre state park known for the 803-acre Inks Lake used for fishing, scuba diving and other water sports.

Visited while in Marble Falls on vacation. I recommend booking day passes ahead of time. We would of been turned away if we hadn't. We did not enjoy the water due to the toxic algae in the water. We were traveling with our dog and the algae levels were too high at this time. There were several people enjoying the water, kayaking, paddle boarding, and jumping from the rocks at devil's waterhole. We did hike to the overlook and really enjoyed our time in the park.

This is the perfect place to be on a hot day! We rode bikes around the lake to get to the springs so we were good and hot, perfect for enjoying the cold water! Wear water shoes if possible because it's very slippery. There are plenty of places to leave your things on the ground while you venture in. There's a diving board and life guards. Many families enjoying the cooling waters. Quite a view of downtown too! We thoroughly enjoyed this unique and cooling experience in Austin.

White Rock Lake Park

Surrounding the jewel of Dallas, 1,015-acre White Rock Lake, the park is a prime spot for running, hiking, birdwatching, fishing and people-watching.

Reviewed By charlesl501 - Dallas, United States

I lived just off Lanshire Rd, which is the northern boundary of White Rock Lake Park, for the past 5 years. My wife and I would walk through the park at least once a week on average and would have a picnic lunch down near the bathhouse theater at least once a month. There are lots of cyclists and runners on the trails in the morning and evening hours before and after work during the week and lost of family gatherings on the weekends.A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life for a few hours. the Dallas Arboretum occupies a beautiful space on the south side of the park and Flagpole Hill with picnic and playground facilities is on the north side. The Bath House Cultural Center and theater is on the east side and the dog park and trails are on the west side. A cycling and walking trail runs almost the entire length of the lake from the dam on the southwest side to Flagpole Hill on the north side to the Arboretum on the southeast side.

Caddo Lake State Park

A highly recommended park in northeast Texas with the largest natural lake in Texas and interesting swamp-land. This park is near the towns of Karnack, Uncertain, and Marshall.

This place is a must! Beautiful setting. Went on a hike with a ranger and she was so knowledgeable and friendly. Get out in the bayou. It’s like stepping back in time. You can rent canoes and if you have your own kayak or canoe, it’s easy to put them in the water. Camp sites are spaced apart nicely.
