On objection we were told the clippings would be deleted, but who knows! The rooms are basic, decent for the cheap price, but not comfortable. Beds are creaky, upholstery is gaudy. Housekeeping is pretty shoddy. They do not replenish toiletries or provide water in rooms or replace used glasses. We had to ask them several times for water and carry bottles back to our rooms. There are no elevators so to drag a heavy suitcase all by yourself is a challenge. Of course the staff did not help us, but were happy to help the other 'white' customers. This is one thing we (brown-skinned) faced throughout our travel through Uzbekistan. The only saving grace is the breakfast spread. This family-run place is suitable only if you are travelling light and on a budget, and can ignore cold behaviour.

Excellent Garden, Great Food, Wonderful Location
Reviewed By Daniel SWe spent 3 nights here during our trip to Samarkand. We really loved our stay here. There are just a few rooms, so it's very intimate. As others have commented, the garden in the center of the property is absolutely lovely -- we spent several lazy afternoons reading and drinking tea here. Location is really great -- just steps away from the Tamerlane Mausoleum, and a pleasant 15 or so minute walk from the Registan. The breakfasts here (which include jams from the garden) were absolutely fantastic. We also stayed in for dinner one night -- vegetable soup, various Uzbek mezzes, and beef plot -- that was a real treat, and highly recommended. The women who run this property were very kind, helpful in arranging taxis, and engaging to talk with. Our only small complaints would be that the room was a little tight on space, and the property itself is not historical. Overall, however, we would highly recommend Antica to anyone heading to Samarkand.

Our hotel consist 8 rooms in 2 floors. Hotel issued in the national style. We welcom guests salutatory tea and a warm attitude of the personnel. We will be glad to see you in our hotel.
Warm family run hostel
Reviewed By TazFox29We had 3 nights in our own room with an en-suite bathroom. The room was small but clean and perfect for the price. We were lucky enough to spend some time getting to know the manager Aziz and his father. They were really helpful and very nice people. The father provided pickup and drop off at the train station, taxis into town and a day trip to Urgut all at reasonable prices, a family run business. We looked forward to the nice breakfasts in the morning and walked to the major sites. Well recommended hostel. Best of luck Aziz!

Very good location, but the place needs to be cleaned and overhauled
Reviewed By F8714PN_Alex_WThis is a family-run hotel where quite a few family members could speak English. However, the standard of the room and bathroom was a bit rough, and cleanliness doubtful. The carpet felt dusty underfoot. The room assigned to me had windows looking into the courtyard but the dining tables of the courtyard were placed right up to the windows, which had only voile curtains. So, noise and privacy was an issue. The mattress was very hard. There were 3 power points for charging. Wifi was OK most times though it got very slow in the evenings. The lighting was adequate but could be brighter. There was a desk, which was appreciated. There was no fridge, no safe, nor was drinking water or daily cleaning provided. I am just stating these as information and facts, not as complaints, because for a room in this price bracket, I did not expect it to have these things. However, what was notable was that the room did not have an airconditioner, only a fan, so in summer it may prove very uncomfortable. Nor did the room have any visible heater for the colder months. The bathroom was substandard. Although the porcelain fixtures were OK, they need to re-do the plumbing, and provide a hand-held shower head. The space for showering was too narrow, with the plastic curtain often sticking to you when wet (and you wonder if the curtain is clean). Dirt was accumulating in the corners of the bathroom. However, water pressure was good, hot water came through after a while and drainage was good. Bath towels were a shock: very old, worn and off-coloured. Breakfast was OK (bread, eggs, rice, yogurt, cheese) though compared poorly with other hotels in the same price category. Those other hotels had a bigger selection. The location of Bahodir however was fantastic. It was only about 200 metres from the main pedestrian avenue and 300 metres from Registan. Along the pedestrian avenue are cafes, restaurants and shops, although rather touristy. The impression I have is that this started life as a cheap hostel where backpackers wanted the "authentic" (read: ramshackle, rough-it-out) experience. But as Bahodir tries to go into the B&B category, its bad habits regarding standards and cleanliness are proving to be an obstacle. Overall, not the best value compared to others in the same price bracket.

Reviewed By alikarimWe stayed here for a few days, the young man running reception spoke good English. We tried calling the hotel while we were driving there with a taxi driver who did not know where this place was. Unfortunately, no answer and when we finally found it, the reason for no answer was that there was a power cut, and landlines therefore did not work during power outages. The rooms are large, but outdated. The included breakfast was very good always. The family are nice and pleasant and helpful. Only reason for 3 stars is because of the dated rooms.

Reviewed By Hatam12We were 7 persons (3 couples and 1 child) and stayed here for 3 nights. Its a beautiful boutique hotel located near Registan square. There is lady that does room service and makes everyone breakfasts. She is super kind and lovely . The breakfast is simple but good. Rooms are clean and good sized. The bathrooms are very clean and shower is very nice .

Reviewed By bearsignMaybe not the most comfortable rooms on the market, but great hospitality! Thanx to Zamira & the staff. We've enjoyed everyday. The staff can speak Uzbek and Russian, also a little bit English and Turkish. They have a "no shoe in the building" policy. The location is good. If you want, you can go to Registan and several important places such as Gur Amir on foot. The kitchen is limited, if you want something to eat or drink at night, you can buy from nearby markets at day time and eat or drink at the garden or your room. There are refrigerators at the rooms. The pool is clean.

Reviewed By joslo91We were not expecting the four seasons in Monte Carlo but at £60+ per night I think there is a minimum of what someone expects and it should include bottled water in the room, more than one supermarket coat hanger in the wardrobe and curtains which are properly fitted. The mattress doubled up as a butchers block. We had a room on the ground floor which was almost directly opposite the reception area. This did not add to our experience as we were woken up in the night by tour groups aggregating in the lobby before getting their night bus to Bukhara/Khiva. On the positive side the staff were friendly and the room was clean with a good sized ensuite bathroom. I would not advise people not to stay here, but to consider the cost of the room. We booked last minute so the prices were probably higher than normal. If you are looking for a basic overnight stay that is only a 20 minute walk to the Registan and can secure a room for £40 a night or less, I would say go for it. But anything more than that feels rich and I would suggest looking at alternatives in Samarkand.
