Makena beach, also known as Big Beach, is hands down the best beach in Maui. Long, wide, and sandy beach that offers a break from the crowds in Kaanapali and Kihei. Big parking lot with portable toilets. The beach is perfect for both couples and families.

Our third visit in 5 years. Great experience. Nice to feel liberated and comfortable. Waves were too tall for swimming. We are A fit, conservative, middle age couple who are surprised how much we love visiting this beach- bucket list-check. Wife was totally comfortable there.

Mokapu Beach

Reviewed By mprach024 - Grand Rapids, United States

I think a lot of the local outfitters who do group shore dives come here, makes sense as it's very easy to get in as a novice and start snorkeling without having to get too deep too fast. The fourth out you go the bigger the reef gets and the bigger the fish. I've never noticed much of a current here although I've read in other forums that sometimes when the swells come in this place can get nasty so be aware of the water conditions. I usually find myself sitting on the Ulua side, but both are nice, both have access to the same reef (one from the left and one from the right) and I never noticed much of an advantage as they share a public parking lot. Do note that since the Andaz is now on Mokapu, it's gotten quite a bit busier, and I seem to find my happy place easier over on Ulua. But again you can't go wrong with either. Great views of West Maui too.

Ulua Beach

The best snorkeling spot in Wailea.

Reviewed By heidi0613 - Prince Albert, Canada

Great for snorkelling or swimming. There is a good sized parking lot to park at and a drop off area to drop the family and gear off at. Showers and bathrooms are at the entrance. Nice sandy beach and it’s easy for snorkelers to get in the water and see fish not to far off shore. We have been here several times. Always beautiful.

We have spent many hours on the beaches of Maui for all the obvious reasons and Oneloa does not disappoint one bit! Huge and aptly called "Big Beach" by the locals, it is terrific for any and all beach activities, especially body surfing, boogie boarding, and swimming. Lots of room for everyone!
