Sweetwater Tavern

American casual restaurant with a micro brewery serving western inspired food in a fun and relaxing atmosphere.

I have found Sweetwater Tavern an excellent go to restaurant for outstanding salads. I especially like mine topped off with their territic marinated salmon. Except for one unpleasant evening the service has also been very good. On the particular evening in question we had a waiter who seemed to not want to be bothered with serving and made mistakes in our orders, a very unusual occurence for this very good chain of restaurants which takes pride in service. A chat with the manager gave us a coupon to cover one meal, but of course, while a reasonable thing to do, that doesn't make up for a wasted evening. However, going back after that resulted in much better food and service. It is a favorite of ours for dining out on a patio, although the wait for a table there can be a bit long. This is one of our go-to restaurants.

A friend chose Café Deluxe as a geographically convenient place to meet for lunch. WE were seated right away at a very pleasant table near a window. Our orders were taken efficiently and arrived promptly. The décor was pleasant and modern. The Cheasapeake Bloody Mary was good, though not quite as good as the one I remember ordering at Chef Geoff’s. Our friend ordered the mussels, that looked great and she said were delicious. My Tuna Tacos were good, and so was the Soft Crab Sandwich my wife ordered. All in all, it was a good meal and a very pleasant lunch, ideal for catching up with an old friend. Recommended.Good evening FJ GonzalezG,Thank you so much for your nice comments. I have passed on you kind words to the staff and the chef team. It gives us great pleasure when our hard work and professionalism is acknowledged. We look forward to seeing you very soon.Sincerely,Martha AllenGeneral Manager

Barrel & Bushel

Reviewed By christie584

I came here with a group of coworkers for dinner based on a recommendation. The place has a great atmosphere with high ceilings and an indoor/outdoor concept. The service left something to be desired and is the sole reason this place lost a star.Three of my coworkers loved the small steak plate with roasted veg, one of them said they could eat it three days a week. It was cooked perfectly and was super tender. Other items they liked were the burgers and the poutine. I had the ahi lettuce wraps and, while they had good flavor, they were a bit rough to eat with just one large chunk of tuna vs. smaller pieces. Now onto the service. We arrived during happy hour, so we all ordered a drink off that menu. The rum and cokes were extremely strong, which I'm a fan of, but we had to order extra coke on the side for others since the drinks were so clear they looked like iced tea….and we all ordered single tall drinks, so I can only imagine a short glass would have been straight rum. Two people ordered diet coke and another ordered regular coke. The server accidentally brought an extra diet and said he had to go dump it and bring another. We said he could leave it…surely someone would drink it…and we were charged for it (which isn't a big deal, but we thought it was odd since it was just going down the drain anyway). One coworker ordered a specific beer. The server came back a few minutes later with samples of two beers for him to try. The server then came back like 10 minutes later (after happy hour was over) and asked if he'd decided which beer he would like…to which the coworker said he'd still like the same beer he ordered 10 minutes ago - he didn't get the happy hour price. I should also note that the bar was closed for renovations, so we weren't able to go up and make any fixes ourselves; we had to wait for the server each time. The end of the meal was the biggest debacle. We asked for separate checks (again we were on a work trip). The server said he could only give us four checks (which he never mentioned until the end of the meal) "per Hyatt policy"…keep in mind, this is a place connected to a Hyatt, in Tysons - a spot dominated by business clientele which have to need this same request frequently for company policies on separate receipts… So the server walks away and we think he must be joking. He comes back with one check and a pen and tells me I need to separate the check myself to tell him what we all ordered so he knew how to split the check. I then had to go through and number each item 1-6 for each party on the check for him while my coworkers watched in shock joking that I should get paid for working here doing the servers job. He took about 10 minutes (spending the whole time staring between our check and his screen rubbing his head in frustration) and brought us our six checks. When we reviewed them, we saw two of the checks weren't correct as I'd numbered them. When the server came back to us, I showed him which items were wrong (yet again I'd taken a pen and marked the three items that needed moved to the other bill). He told me "this is why we can't do more than four checks." He didn't seem to understand that the issue clearly wasn't with the number of checks, he was able to give us six of them, he just wasn't able to split them up properly for who ordered them. He wasn't happy when we pointed this out, and he proceeded to take at least 15 minutes first staring at the computer, rubbing his face, getting flustered, and taking it to a manager to fix. He brought EVERYONE a new check for some reason and the same exact two bills that were wrong were STILL wrong in the EXACT same way. We told him we gave up and we'd just fix it ourselves in cash. It's literally easier to go against your own company's policies for receipts than to get a correct receipt at this place. Another group of coworkers suggested going to this place for drinks on another night of our trip and we decided not to give them our party's business solely because of how painful this experience was.

Authentic Irish food was not so authentic - we didn't care much for our dinner. Good place for drinks but that's all we would recommend.

BEWARE! My husband and I were staying in the Tyson's area on business. We were looking for a healthy and upbeat restaurant to have an early dinner, around 5 PM. What we found was contrary to their description. In summary, the food was expensive, unhealthy, greasy and dangerously salty. Our service was dirty and broken. The staff were rude and off-putting. Also, Founding Fathers is not easy to find. We were inside the adjacent mall, using a map to locate it. You have to walk through or around the parking deck next door, across the concrete plaza, down the stairs outside, and around the side of the building. There were absolutely no signs. The parking attendant had no idea there was even a restaurant nearby. I will begin with a small positive - We liked that we had our own water decanter on our table, and the silverware had heft. Now, the vast negatives - The young, 20-something hostess with the upper lip piercing was extremely rude and unfriendly, and did not smile or say hello. Why is she the first face you see? This is clearly not her calling. She also wrote down a time on a piece of cardstock which indicated how long we were apparently allowed to stay. Really? Is this how you want repeat business? Our server very quickly looked at the time and grabbed the paper away when he introduced himself, making us feel immediately unwelcome. The aforementioned decanter had a very large crack running most of the way through it. If our server would have taken greater care, he would have absolutely noticed it, and given us a new one right away, without us pointing it out. Our table was dirty, with the crusted remains of something green on the top. One of our napkins had old food on it. It wasn't a stain. It was an unwashed napkin, folded, ready for service. Every one of the wait staff was curt and looked like they were merely tolerating their customers. I watched three grown adult servers stand in a corner and gossip about patrons. Our own server felt like he was putting on an act to be pleasant. We ordered the country fried steak and donut w/ mac and cheese and green beans, and a prime rib/steak sandwich with fries. The country fried steak was very tough, like leather. The donut was heavy and greasy, and the mac and cheese was very bland. The steak sandwich and the fries were very, very heavy handed in the salt department, so much so, that my lips burned. When I politely told my server after he asked how things were, he feigned a fake "oh no" and walked away very quickly. No offer to exchange or address my meal whatsoever. Also, when my plate was served, there was a large piece of cooked egg clinging to the side (which was not part of my meal.) Our server didn't even see it, or remove it. In fact, he left my dirty napkin on our table until he took the money for our bill. The bathroom situation was ridiculous. They were out of order, so we had to walk down a long hallway, take an elevator to another level, go through the foyer/waiting area of a business in the same building and try to see where the bathrooms were after that. NO signage after elevator. On top of that, the door handles to the bathrooms were stiff and did not move. In other words, it would appear to most that they were locked, because it was the style of door handle that does in fact turn. We had to tell several people to just push on the handle. One gentleman was desperate to use the bathroom and was having difficulty in figuring it out. Why didn't the restaurant provide adequate signage and a note about the handles? This is horrendous customer service. The booth seats looked worn. They were also very low, which was uncomfortable. The chairs were not much better. And my chair was cracked and was dirty, as well. We do a lot of business and personal trips to this area from out of state, but we will never return to this restaurant, nor can we recommend it to our colleagues or friends. We are well aware that the DC area isn't overly friendly, but to feel as though you are unwelcome is reprehensible. I don't know how Founding Farmers is still in business. I'd give it less than 1 star if I could. Feels like these issues are a top-down problem, and part of the Founding Fathers culture.Dear From_the_Southeast: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed review with us about your recent experience to our Tysons' Founding Farmers. I am SUPER sorry for the many and vast negatives of your time with us. I feel terrible for the confusion you had with the location of our restaurant, the lacking & inconsiderate service form our staff, the disappointing food, the poor care of our restaurant amenities and of course, I sincerely apologize for the renovation work taking place to the building's restrooms- which sadly, has left our guests to use the secondary restrooms in the lobby of the building. With this all acknowledged, I would love the opportunity to touch base further and ask that you please email me a copy of your feedback and the date you joined at [email protected]. -Amy
