We arrived for the Jazz night that had been advertised. There was a lovely atmosphere and an excellent trio playing. We soon wished that we had waited to eat here. The food going past our table looked wonderful. A good musical evening in front of a blazing log fire.

After our disappointment in January we were invited back the following week, and I must say we were not disappointed this time, it was brilliant. Ian explained the problem, which was sorted very quickly. I have been coming here for the past 5 years and Sue for much longer and never had a problem, in fact Ian and Ross did a birthday party for Sue and it was outstanding, and I hope to be arranging one for myself later this year. Thank you so much Ian ,Ross and all your staff for your kindness and dedication in putting The Goldfinger back on top, where it belongs.......see you all soonThanks Trevor (and Sue of course)Glad we were able to sort the issues and reassure you that normal service resumes. Any help you need at anytime then just let me know. Thanks Ian & Roz

Stayed for one night in hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the evening meal. Both had the beef signature dish, excellent. Starter (whitebait) and dessert (apple crumble) just as good. Breakfast (included in our stay) also excellent. All food piping hot. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The Freke Arms

Just looked at previous reviews for the Freke arms and I agree with a review regarding the Sunday lunch being hardly generous with vegetables accompanying the Sunday roast.I thought the veg .dish was for two instead of four people. Not as good as the last Sunday lunch there a while back.Hello David WI'm very sorry for the delay in response, its taken some time to gain ownership of the trip adviser link.I have also commented on the previous post that you're referring to.In response to your reviews, we have now upped our weekly order of potatoes to ensure we can keep up with demand and our staff are asking all customers if the vegetables put out are enough or if they would like more, some do and some don't but we're quite satisfied that we have now overcome the problem that's been raised. If you choose to return we hope that you will find everything to be resolved.Kind regardsAll at the Freke Arms

We, and another couple, regularly dine out together in the local area and recently we decided to support the Radnor Arms which has been undergoing refurbishment. We booked a table two weeks prior to our visit knowing that there would be a limited menu due to a new kitchen being installed. On arrival we were informed that the only option for food was a buffet at £20 a head and that we should have been contacted by phone to inform us of this. We weren’t. On entering the restaurant the table which we had booked was occupied by six other people and the only table available was a very small round one which would only be suitable for two diners. The lady in charge did not offer to ask the occupants of “our table” to move. When we said that we would leave and find somewhere else to eat we only received a rather half-hearted apology. Don’t think we will be back!

The Jolly Tar Hannington

Reviewed By Thom_and_Jenni

Visited this pub in the tiny village of Hannington (pop. 250) on a Saturday lunchtime. It’s a lovely looking pub (converted from an 18th century farmhouse in 1855) with two cosy bars and large, light conservatory at the rear. There’s also a decent sized, family-friendly garden at the back and a large carpark. On our visit the staff were friendly and the food was good. We’d certainly return.Oh, and if you’re after spirits of a different kind, the public bar is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a tall, scruffy, middle-aged man (although that describes just about every country pub we’ve ever been to…)

We’ve visited here twice for Sunday lunch in recent months. Both times the food and staff were good. The first time service was a bit slow, but it wasn’t the end of the world as we weren’t in a rush, and the second time everything came promptly. The staff on both occasions were really genuine and friendly, and were patient and courteous when dealing with the more elderly guests. Sunday roasts cost £15 for two courses, or £18 for three, and there was a good selection: pork, beef or chicken, plus fish and veggie options. The pork was excellent and the beef, although more well done than we would usually have, was also tasty. We’ll certainly return next time we’re visiting Highworth, although we’ll perhaps not run the gauntlet of driving our car through the really narrow passageway from the street to the car park at the rear!Thank you ever so much for your review. It means a lot to us that you took the time and trouble to spread the word. We hope to see you again soon. Warm regards, Linda
