Visited the Parlour this afternoon for a late lunch around 3pm. Atmosphere was great with a bustling wee pub! Music playing in the background which was nice and we were able to chat away to each other at the table.Staff serving were more than friendly and very keen to please. Starters: homemade vegetable broth, which was very tasty and just what I wanted on a cold, wet and windy day. Mains: Locally sourced chicken and ham pie, potatoes and veg. Pie was amazing and mash was nice and creamy. I have read some reviews of people commenting negatively on portion size however I was unable to finish all of my main and sadly had no room for dessert. However I will be back to try Chefs Old School Jam & Coconut Sponge and custard. Very reasonable priced paying only £33 for two courses and two pints of soft drinks each. Looking forward to my next visit!

Ruby's Bar

Family Sunday lunch, food was OK. Ruby's is very "run down" glass on doors into restaurant very dirty and wooden floor very sticky, needs a good clean and a lot of wasps around. Decided on the Sunday lunch menu 2 courses but our bill just didn't add up. We had a membership plus discount card for 15 percent off food. When I went back to check bill with staff they didn't have a clue, didn't offer to check it over. We were charged full prices for meals instead of 2 courses for 12.95. Not very helpful. Sorry now that I left a cash tip. Wondered why it was empty..... Don't think we'll be returning again.

Came here as a couple for lunch, midweek, so fairly quiet. Seated quickly by friendly staff.Modern, comfortable and clean environment, perhaps a little dark for lunchtime!Impressed by the quality of decor, furniture, furnishings and tableware. Those are the pluses!!!I had checked out their menu online before arriving using current website Foursquare.com.Prices seemed very reasonable, but after being given the lunch menu, there was no comparison. Now, I wasn’t making notes, but the advertised price of eg beef burger was £8.95, hard menu price was actually £12.00. All other items were also about one third higher in reality.Portion size was fairly small, food was of decent quality, although skinny fries being the advertised accompaniment to most mains made it a bit like McDonalds.Waiting time for the food to be served was lengthy.I guess I just like to see the same menu on the table as advertised online.I think £30 for a pub lunch for two is just a fair bit higher than neighbouring alternatives. Not good value then!

The Auld House is a dated but pleasant country bar. We went here as a family to celebrate my dad's birthday. We had ordered a substantial amount 8 adults (drinks, starters and main courses). I approached the bar with cupcakes for my dad and a chorus of staff voices started saying we can't serve those, you can't bring your own food here because we serve desserts. We felt this was a total over reaction to 12 mini cupcakes and so we ate our meal that was fine got nothing else to eat and left. Very disappointed in our visit 5/10 for the food 0/10 for customer service.Kirsty Thank you for review. All feedback is much appreciated.Your review is certainly unfortunate as we don’t normally receive this feedback regarding our staff. Please contact me directly via email at [email protected] take all comments on board and I would certainly like the opportunity to discuss this with you. RegardsStephen

Mill Restaurant at La Mon Hotel

My family were invited to a wedding last week at this place and I have to say it was the worst I have ever been to!! The staff on arrival weren't even sure where the wedding was taking place as they thought they had got the rooms mixed up! An hour before the ceremony starts.....we should have known at this point that the place was a shambles. We get 'herded' to what can only be described as an open plan waiting area with very few seats with a bar. Eventually a tannoy announcement for us all to make our way into a room for the ceremony is about to begin. No offence but where is the master of ceremonies rather than a tannoy announcement??? Very amateurish to say the least. The ceremony itself passes and once again we get herded into the open plan waiting area that clearly doesn't have enough seating for all the people at the wedding!!! Asking for additional seating gets greeted with confused looks from staff who mutter under their breath and disappear!! Eventually we get sat down for the meal and again mass confusion from the servers who seem to wander to whatever table they fancy and set meals down randomly. The food itself is disgusting!!! Vegetable soup as a starter is just about bearable but the main course of daube of beef is a disgrace.......massively overcooked for a cheap cut of beef and when guests ask for additional gravy they have to wait 25 (yes 25) minutes for it to come from the kitchen. I don't believe I have ever seen so much food be sent back to the kitchen. 3 people at my table didn't even eat more than one bite as they were appalled by the standard of food in front of them and their complaints all fell on deaf ears of the servers who couldn't wait to get away!! Dessert was a lacklustre cheesecake with little flavour. The servers again showing lack of personality or any real care for the guests.Even the bar staff were extremely rude any time people were at the bar!!I have told several people about this place and have told people planning on getting married to avoid this shambles of a hotel....and whoever was in charge of the kitchen should find a new profession as what was produced by themselves was nothing shot of a crime as if they consider that to be worth £70 odd per head they live in a dream land

I’d booked for Sunday evening and it was a restricted menu? Why? The service was just ok as was the food. Would I recommend to friends? NO. Will we be back anytime soon? NO. Not like it used to be at all. Sad really. Hi,Please forgive the delay in responding to this review. We were a bit confused by your comment, "it was a restricted menu", and, as you hadn't mentioned which Sunday you were in, we weren't sure how to answer as we can't recall having a restricted menu on a Sunday. We do have a Sunday menu, which is different to our usual weekday menu. Might this be what you mean? Most, if not all restaurants would have a different Sunday menu because of the demand for roasts etc. and we also offer kids eat free on a Sunday, but we do think there is ample choice on the Sunday menu to suit all tastes.Or perhaps you were in on a special Sunday such as Father's Day. On days like this we would put on a special menu as well as other things like additional entertainment or something special for the kids. Might this be what you mean?In short, we're not sure what your comment about a restricted menu refers to, and we hope your comment on the food is a reflection of your impression of "restricted". We think we're as good as we ever were; it's the same kitchen team, same suppliers etc.If this response has not answered your concern, please, do contact us directly.RegardsMolly Brown's Management Team

We had decided to try this restaurant after checking the menus, as my OH doesn’t eat any vegetables what so ever and and it can be hard to find somewhere that he has a choice other than fish & chips, chicken goujons or burger, he settle for the fish cake starter but had to yet again choose a burger as everything else had veg somewhere in it, both our starters were nice, I had the chicken spring roll, he did find the burger turned out dry by the time he got half way through it, but it was very tasty, I choose the chicken & beef in peppercorn sauce with a side of salad instead of the potatoes, although the food was, as I say nice it was the service that let this place down, there was three members of staff on the evening we were there and although pleasant, none of them went out of their way to see if we were happy with everything, the bill was asked for and left on the table, we put the debit card on the saucer but nobody made any move to come and take our payment, two members of staff walked past a few times, so we headed to the bar area to pay, maybe this is what you are suppose to do but if they had said when they brought the bill we would have known what to do, we were not asked if we enjoyed our meal or if everything was ok, so sorry guys but we will not be back. Hi DavidI am so sorry to read about your awful visit with us that has left you and your OH feeling like you would not come back. Actually sorry I have just read your review and can't see why you have left just so unhappy.I have spoken to my staff and let them know I am disappointed that they didn't check if you were enjoying your meal as we pride ourselves on doing this. We do not rush to get customers money but perhaps they should have noticed your card or you or your OH could also have just requested they bring the card machine to your table. If you had let them know your OH didn't like vegetables or if your OH had said himself we could have done most of the dishes without vegetables and offered something in their place. Sometimes it is only a matter of asking rather than writing!!!!I hope maybe you read your review back and realise it is a little harsh to say you won't return due to a couple of tiny things and we prove to you next time we do welcome everyone to our restaurantNicky CaugheyDirector
