In our visit in Takayama we choosed this place taste an authentic japanese dinner of Hida beef and japanese snacks . We ordered 250g of amazing Hida beef , also tasted Gyoza and typical Takayama snacks . Quality, taste and staff were TOP. We also tried 3 kind of local sake as sets are available in menu. We strongly recommend this place!!!

Arrived at 5pm as soon as it opens to secure the counter seats (only 8).It's a small place. There is a back room tatami to accommodate another 4-6 people.The chef was brisk and didn't provide a smile other than to his local patrons (who had reserved 3 seats indicated by personalize chopsticks).We got the Hana set (2 shrimp, 6 veg) and Kiss set (2 whiting, 6 veg). Both sets are served with miso soup, rice and pickles.Service quick and no nonsense.

Delicious food, we loved using the Japanese charcoal BBQ to cook the Hida beef and veggies. We also ordered the sides of potatoes and pickles - yum! Friendly service with some English. Overall a bit pricey but recommend this place if you want to try the local beef and looking for a great experience.

Like others we came upon this restaurant while wandering through the historic quarter. The chef spoke good english and we ordered vegetable tempura and soba noodles. The food was very good and so tasty. We appreciated the helpful hints on how best to enjoy soba noodles! The waitress who didn't speak english was a hoot! All up 3400 yen. Highly recommend.

In Takayama, there are plenty of smaller places to eat dinner and luckily I was able to get a reservation for my group of 16. The staff of this restaurant were extremely friendly and accommodating for my English speaking group. They came around to help member of my party cook their meals (if they ordered something table side). This place has hands down been my favorite place to eat while staying in Japan for 2 weeks. The staff of two has been exceptional. From an enthusiastic greeting when I entered, to their interest in my travels. Iâll say, I am a white American male traveling solo and with tattoos. As polite as Iâve tried to be (and speaking as much Japanese as I can) I have been turned away at a few places due to either being foreign or having tattoos. Hida Takayama Gyoza Souhonzan made me feel so welcome. They even broke out some funny hats, we took silly photos, and I drew a picture which they already had up on the wall when I came back again for a second visit. Finally, I havenât mentioned the food. This is the best gyoza Iâve ever had. On my first visit I tried the Hida beef and the spinach, and on the second I tried the fried Hida beef. This will be something I miss when I go back home. This place has a very nice food and service. Fresh food and delicious food. The owners attend directly the restaurant and they are super nice. The waiter is also really nice.
