Port Tonic Art Center is the unique contemporary art center and artist residency in the Golfe of Saint Tropez. Located on the sea at Les Issambres, in a former shipyard, Port Tonic Art Center aims to promote artistic creation, to expand the art knowledge and finally to support the creation of spaces for artists. ART TONIC is the retrospective expo organised every summer to present all the projects of the artists in residency.

If you are an admirer of Renoir or just an art lover, it is fascinating to visit this house situated in a lovely garden overlooking Cagnes sur Mer. Fascinating to see what this great painter surrounded himself with and to see what he painted - because he painted what he saw. A wonderful opportunity to explore further his life and his work. I really enjoyed this visit.

Besides the murals all other decoration is also by the multitalented artist - red velvet chairs, metal lamps resembling flowers, leopard carpet and the obligatory Marianne in all French wedding halls, this one a young Brigitte Bardot reflecting endlessly on opposite mirrors. There is a taped English language introduction giving the basic facts, but the live French presentation every Thursday costing 4 euros has all the juicy parts. After redesigning the Mayors office in the building formerly functioning as a casino Cocteau was asked to do the wedding hall but refused instantly. He only changed his mind when his former lover, legally known as his adopted son fell in love with a woman and wanted to marry her. The characters in the murals depict all the strong feelings this caused.

A stunning collection of work by Fernand Léger - regarded as the forerunner of Pop Art. Entrance fee is only €5.50 and includes an audio guide - provides excellent information. The museum is stunning on the outside, covered in several huge mosaics, also by Lèger. Inside the space is bright and airy with high ceilings and lots of natural light. Everything is well laid out and easy to navigate. There are lots of benches and seating throughout the exhibition areas where you can sit down and look at the art while listening to the audio guide. The Museum is on the outskirts of Biot, hidden off one of the roads leading up to the village. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area.

Discover, at the entrance of the old village of Mougins, how the beauty of the ancient world has influenced neoclassical, modern and contemporary art. The Museum’s large and diverse collection of antiquities includes Roman, Greek and Egyptian sculpture, vases, coins, and jewellery, and also the world’s largest private collection of ancient arms and armour. These ancient artworks are interspersed with many classically-inspired paintings, drawings, and scupltures by artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Dufy, Cézanne, Rodin, Dali, Andy Warhol, Marc Quinn, Anthony Gormley and Damien Hirst.NewWe will be co-hosting a temporary exhibition with the village of Mougins from the 12th April to 28th May 2012, Myths & Heros.A selection of sculptures, paintings & mosaics by Picasso, Arman, Sosno, Renoir, Rubens, Cezanne & Turchi on display in the Espace Culturelle.
Aa well as Roman busts and statues and incredible Egyptian artefacts including hieroglyphics there are vases, glassware, jewellery and coins, and an array described as the world's "largest private collection of ancient armour", There are also works by old masters and modern artists, such as Rubens, Degas, Rodin, Braque, Picasso – and on to Mark Quinn, Damien Hirst and Antony Gormley – intended to show the continuity of classical themes into the present. The interesting labels are in French and English.

This was my favourite place in Nice; very unexpectedly. Modern marble building "floating" on a lake, representing a cygnet (young swan). Looks odd from the outside but feels great from the inside, perfect for art. Well lit, with good descriptions in French and English. Free entry to small but very high quality museum of asian arts. Special room for Japanese tea ceremony. Small cafe. Excellent small gift shop with lovely cards and gifts. Museum features sculpture and paintings from India, Japan, China, South-East Asia, and on the top floor a temporary exhibition (til 24 June 2018) of Mongolian art including many beautiful brush and watercolour horse activities (hunting with eagles, hunting with a leopard, musicians, princes and princesses on horseback). They were so lively and so good I looked at them all individually and I'm not even interested in horses. To get there, take the local bus along the Promenade des Anglais towards the Airport and get off at Parc Phoenix. The entrance is round the back, next to the Park Phoenix entrance, very close to the Novotel and Ibis Suites. Highly recommended if you like modern architecture and/or art.

Paintings of St Tropez & surroundings by famous artists who lived & painted there. Wonderful to actually see the sites they painted right outside the door.

Currently closed for works (January 2020) The Madoura pottery is a unique, exceptional place. From 1946, Pablo Picasso, followed by a number of artists including Marc Chagall, Victor Brauner and Matisse, were hosted here by Suzanne and Georges Ramie, leaving their indelible mark on the history of art, ceramics and Vallauris itself. This spectacularly well-preserved hub of art, history and creativity is home to a permanent collection of ceramics by Picasso and Suzanne Ramie as well as contemporary art exhibitions.
