Through the years we had visiting this venture each time we’re in Tandil. One more time I had proved the reliability of it.Clean, Bright and very well decorated to create a nice “gaucho” atmosphere as their name suggested. (El Estribo = The Stirrup). Host and servers was very courteous and friendly. The venture has a long Bar counter with full bar. Wine selection was wide and excellent, as you should expect at any Argentine Restaurant. The Town of Tandil (and the surrounded area) is famous for their locally produced cured meats and Cheeses as well as cow, pork and lamb meat, for not to mention grains and produce, as well as all their byproducts. That causes that the Menu selections for Appetizers, Meat, Pastas, Salads and Desserts all comes so great and tasteful. The place is a local Landmark, and a must to be visited when in town.

Parrilla at it's best combined with impeccable service, all paired with exquisite wine makes this a very memorable experience. The meat cooking over a wood fired grill in the front window is a splendid touch. The word "Magnificent" does not come close to describe this place. A very warm and welcoming atmosphere.

After 4 weeks of wonderful Argentinian beef, my family and I longed for a bit of home. After enjoying the 20th bicentennial parade, I saw a sign in the window for Sushi! Just the thing! We found this place again and stopped in. As American, we were early as they did not open til 8pm and were slammed with return customers at 10pm. The servers greeted their neighborhood customers with kisses and pleasantries. We ordered 3 different kinds of sushis. Now... was this the best sushi I have ever had? No. But, it is probably the only sushi I have ever had that was not made by a Japanese person. Did it scratch our itch? Yes, it did. There was no pickled Ginger on the plate, but there was a pinch of Wasabi. The atmosphere was lovely.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Argentina. If you’re searching where to eat, this is not your place. If you want to enjoy a unique experience, from the art of every dish to the combination of elaborated flavors, and you have the time to wait while each unique piece is carefully prepared by Jose Maisonnave, then Umami is your place in Tandil, worth the 4 hours drive from BA. Served in antique china, and carefully taken care of by very warm and professional staff. It’s art, it’s flavor, it’s Umami! Bravo Jose!

Granja El Calvario

Reviewed By Cali702

As its name suggests, the Granja is just down the street from El Calvario, which makes it very easy to reach by taking the micro (city bus). It actually is more a store than a restaurant. The owner and staff are extremely friendly and allowed me to sample more than a dozen cheeses, salamis, and hams, so that I could choose the ones that I preferred. My first day in Tandil, I bought several items for a picnic in the park. On my last day, I went back, because I wanted a "picada" for the trip home, but the only picadas that they had were far too large for one person. So the owner offered to slice some cheeses, salamis, and hams and make up a "to go" package for me of my favorite items. The entire cost of the "to go" package in February 2019 (including a medium loaf of bread) was 153 Argentine pesos (less than 4 US dollars) and was enough for three meals (one that afternoon, one on the bus back to Buenos Aires, and one for the next day). During my time in Tandil, I had a picada at another restaurant in Buenos Aires that was twice as expensive and much lower quality than the package Granja El Calvario made for me. If I am ever able to visit Tandil again, Granja El Calvario will be on my list of places to return.

We stopped by in this city in the way to Patagonia, and we were surprised by this spot, which we absolutely recommend. We followed the recommendation of the cheff and went with "molejas crocantes", which is part of the gut of the cow rarely seen in the US, cooked well until crunchy. My wife went with a mix of raw cooked vegetables. As dessert we had a mousse with chocolate and maracuja which was really good.Thank you Timmydav for your comments and rating. We are very happy that you have been able to stop and enjoy this wonderful place and our delicious food. We are waiting for you again here on your return from Patagonia ...See you soon
