Island Kitchen

My daughter and I enjoy a good Blueberry Pancake, so we made it a point to taste-test them at different restaurants on Nantucket this week. Hands down, the winner was Island Kitchen. I know it can depend on who is cooking on any given day, but this particular pancake was perfection! It was medium-thin, crisp on top, loaded with buttery flavor and plump delicious fresh blueberries, and covered with a light dusting of powdered sugar. On the first bite, my friend and I both uttered, "Perfection!" In fact, everything we ordered that morning was outstanding. I so appreciated fresh squeezed Orange Juice! Summing up the restaurants we enjoyed that week, we all decided that the best meal we had on island was that outstanding pancake breakfast at Island Kitchen!

Authentic barbecue with a Nantucket twist! That's the plan for our new restaurant set to open by early spring in the former Cap'n Tobey's building on Straight Wharf. Former Brant Point Grill Executive Chef Fred Bisaillon and his girlfriend Denise Corson,

We walked in without a reservation and on a whim and we were really glad we did. I’m not even a huge BBQ fan and we loved our meal. The ribs were soooooo good. Portions are large. Definitely come hungry. Staff was friendly. It’s a bar so it’s loud and casual but come for some good eats.

We came for brunch. I had blueberry pancakes. My wife had oatmeal with fruit. Our friends had avocado toast, and French toast. Coffee was Nantucket coffee. Everything was excellent. Atmosphere is unrushed. Service is very nice. I prefer it to their old crowded location in town.

This is the Fog Island Cafe, formerly of downtown Nantucket, transported to mid-island. Their breakfast menu has always been outstanding and my favorite. I can't speak for other dining options here, which I haven't tried, but this restaurant has become the go-to place for my family for breakfast. A little out of the way, important during high season, the building is divided up into a series of smaller rooms, which is very pleasant and un-commercial feeling. Our last experience at breakfast was lovely; all the dishes were well prepared, portions are quite generous and service was attentive and personal. There is outside covered patio seating as well. I'm sure their other meals are a pleasant dining experience as well.

Stopped here for lunch and was very happy with our entire meal and drinks. We had a great margarita to start our lunch. As an appetizer we had the hummus plate, which was excellent! I had fish tacos for lunch which were fantastic and my husband had the BLTA, which was also very good. The food is not cheap, but it is very good.

This is a one of a kind. Been going here for decades. But honestly they need to fix the place up. The prices of everything on Nantucket have gotten just plain stupid. Honestly it's getting into rip off territory. I spent almost $500 for drinks and dinner for three for some barely above average food. This place has no business charging $20 for cocktails. Like so many things on Nantucket, there is a thin line between charming antique and simply run down sloppy. It's obvious this place spends ZERO on maintenance. Come on guys step it up or get real with your prices or both

What quaint small private fine dining restaurant that seats 30 patrons at 6PM & 8PM.....Reservations usually required. The staff is very attentive, professional, & friendly. BYOB from family wine shop next door and no cork fee. The presentations were fabulous (starters, entrees, & desert). I did think the portions size was small for the price (4 oz.). Give it try and you will not be disappointed.

Locals will tell you this is a must-do experience on Nantucket, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion. From the moment I entered the charming courtyard garden, I was hooked. Once the domain of a traditional French chef, the one-page menu now features creative tastes that put local seafood front and center. Meat eaters will love the filet mignon and kids will enjoy the burger, but I got my seafood fix with codfish beignets and organic salmon over cauliflower risotto. Extensive wine list includes a few brilliant selections by the glass. Eating in the garden offers the added bonus of people watching as Nantucket regulars arrive in their island finery and pose for pictures. Attentive but not pushy service. Yes, it is a splurge but worth it for the quality.
