February 17, 2022 Florencio Paulino

When you think “adventure travel” you probably think of far-flung places like Belize and Alaska—not Wisconsin. But if you’re an outdoor adventurer, you’ll find plenty of places to explore in Wisconsin. A vacation in Wisconsin can put you close to the Kettle Moraine State Forest, which has excellent biking trails. Or choose Wisconsin’s Apostle Islands—kayakers will love exploring Lake Superior’s many caves and shipwrecks.

Packers fans don’t wear those cheese-wedge hats for nothing! Foodies will love tasting as many of Wisconsin’s artisanal cheeses as possible. Either drive from cheesemaker to cheesemaker, or choose a Wisconsin vacation in a town with a good farmers’ market—then the cheesemakers bring their wares to you. And what goes better with artisanal cheese than craft beer? In Milwaukee, visit the Lakefront and Sprecher Breweries for tours and tastings.

Wisconsin Dells is a classic family vacation destination. A vacation in Wisconsin Dells will put you close to all the excitement—you’ll have to tear the kids away from the theme parks, wave pools and water parks in Wisconsin Dells!

Lake Geneva boasts clean beaches, golf, and a small-town feel that definitely appeals to city dwellers—it’s a popular getaway for residents of Chicago.

Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help

Reviewed By ITBJ55 - Baltimore, United States

Nothing of the scale of Lourdes or Fatima, but this much smaller shrine holds the same level of official church approval. It's easy to miss the Welcome Center (museum) and the crypt chapel, but neither should be skipped. 15 min video continuously playing in the Welcome Center gave a thorough overview of the Marian apparition and general history. Many buildings close at 4pm, though shrine chapel and grounds open til 7pm daily..

Acuity Flagpole

The flagpole and memorial can be visited at any time. Flag Facts: 70- by 140-foot flag is the world's largest free-flying American flag. Tallest flagpole in North America--nearly 100 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty. 400-foot flagpole weighs approximately 420,000 pounds. Over 500 gallons of paint cover the pole. 11-foot diameter at base tapers to 5 1/2-foot diameter at top. Three pendulum-style tuned mass dampers reduce movement and vibration. Designed to withstand a low temperature of -42 degrees Fahrenheit. The 9,800-square-foot flag, which weighs 340 pounds, is more than four times the size of the average U.S. home. Each star is nearly 3 feet across and each stripe is over 5 feet high. Acuity is proud to dedicate the Veterans memorial at the base to all who assure our freedom and to those that continue to serve. We owe our gratitude and thanks for their service and sacrifice. There are more than 750 inscribed pavers at the base of the pole that list the names of every Sheboygan County Veteran killed in the line of duty. A full list of names along with a map with the location of each can be found in a free handout at the base of the flagpole. The flag may be taken down temporarily during times of maintenance (please check our website) or severe weather. The flag will be lowered to half staff during official observances.

Every time I drive by this proud and beautifu flag flying in front of the Acuity Insurance building, I get a sense of pride and love for our country. When it is unfurling in the breeze, this huge flag is a sight to see and can be seen for a long distance. Take notice anytime you are driving down I-43 in Sheboygan. You can't miss it and will drive away with a sense of pride.

Spirit of the Rivers

Reviewed By Calicoboy - Manitowoc, United States

Went to the dedication of this remarkable statue monument yesterday. An absolutely stunning bronze statue of three Ojibwa Indians caught in time during a portage out of Lake Michigan. The 10 foot tall subjects include a young woman, an elder guide, and a young brave carrying a birch bark canoe. The canoe is 18 feet long; and the statue weighs 3 and a half tons. This project was supposed to be completed in 2014; but it took a while longer. The design and casting of this impressive work was done by the well known sculptor R. T. "Skip" Wallen. An Ojibwa elder gave the convocation in his native tongue. He spoke of respect for the planet and all living things; and the common values of humanity. Although I speak passable Lakhota, Ojibwa was beyond my comprehension. Good thing he spoke in English, too. The crowd was in hushed respect. Except for the troll who drove by and yelled, "they're just @%$&ing Indians!" When you visit this place, you will notice the incredible detail in the the statue. The artist went all out to make this monument appear to be a snapshot from time. With Lake Michigan as the backdrop this spot between Manitowoc and Two Rivers is gorgeous! If you are driving between Trivers and Manty it would greatly behoove you to stop and take in this marvel on the lake shore. It's right across from the Aurora Hospital.
