Things to do in Wisconsin, United States: The Best Classes & Workshops

June 12, 2021 Margarita Chappel

When you think “adventure travel” you probably think of far-flung places like Belize and Alaska—not Wisconsin. But if you’re an outdoor adventurer, you’ll find plenty of places to explore in Wisconsin. A vacation in Wisconsin can put you close to the Kettle Moraine State Forest, which has excellent biking trails. Or choose Wisconsin’s Apostle Islands—kayakers will love exploring Lake Superior’s many caves and shipwrecks.

Packers fans don’t wear those cheese-wedge hats for nothing! Foodies will love tasting as many of Wisconsin’s artisanal cheeses as possible. Either drive from cheesemaker to cheesemaker, or choose a Wisconsin vacation in a town with a good farmers’ market—then the cheesemakers bring their wares to you. And what goes better with artisanal cheese than craft beer? In Milwaukee, visit the Lakefront and Sprecher Breweries for tours and tastings.

Wisconsin Dells is a classic family vacation destination. A vacation in Wisconsin Dells will put you close to all the excitement—you’ll have to tear the kids away from the theme parks, wave pools and water parks in Wisconsin Dells!

Lake Geneva boasts clean beaches, golf, and a small-town feel that definitely appeals to city dwellers—it’s a popular getaway for residents of Chicago.

We had the pleasure of experiencing a gourmet dining education with Chef John. Everything about our experience was awesome from the beginning of our evening to the final sampling of our "hard work" of the preparation of the course ( which happened to be Julia Child's French onion soup". We laughed and enjoyed the antics of Chef John and our co- Chefs. Wonderful evening. Our only regret was not taking our chef hats home as a momento.

Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts

The mission statement of Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts is to provide educational experiences in visual, performing, and literary arts for adults and children; cultivate the creativity that thrives in our rural community; rehabilitate and preserve our historic buildings and rustic campus. From modest beginnings with only a youth after-school program and a handful of weekend workshop events in 2004 we’ve grown into a national art center attracting students from across the country to our adult workshops, a robust summer children’s program, and a host of annual special events. Additional features include guest lodging, site and custom retreat rentals, and Alley Stage, our outdoor theater venue.

Drove daily for 3 day workshop, well worth the effort. Teacher was more than thorough and made sure each participant “got it.” Shake Rag Alley has a rustic atmosphere and a quick hike during lunch breaks provided shopping and good eats galore. Too many galleries with fantastic pieces, not enough time to see them all.

My sister and two girlfriends met in Milwaukee for a few day of fun, we had a blast! One of the things we enjoyed the most was having a private glassblowing lesson at Square One Art Glassblowing Studio & Gallery!! It was inexpensive, and you get to keep the piece you make! Chris & Tim were fun and let the four of us girls be ourselves and laugh, learn and have a great time! We enjoyed it so much we are going back next year! Thank you to Chris & Tim for offering such a fun and inexpensive way to learn and to make a keepsake souvenir!!
