Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine

Reviewed By Dynamite2805 - Brampton, Canada

Since we were going to Point Pelee National Park, we decided to visit this shrine last Saturday along with a couple of friends. The GPS took us the St. Anthony’s church which is 5mins away from this Shrine. You will have to drive on Talbot Rd E and take the right to 77, from there keep driving straight until you see the ‘Lebanese Club’ on your left. Take that left and keep driving till you reach the parking spot. You can see the Shrine from the parking itself. The Shrine is around 20-25mins from Point Pelee National Park. The statue is made of white carrara marble, is 145 feet high and weighing 12 tons. It sits on a conical base of concrete 42 feet in height and totalling just under 60 feet with a spiralling staircase to allow accessibility. Apparently, this is a replica of Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine in Harissa, Lebanon. The Mother Mary’s statue at the top of the tower is simply majestic and beautiful. You can climb the winding staircase to get to the top and the view from there is amazing. At the bottom, there is a door that leads to a small chapel where you can pray in complete silence. As you exit the chapel, on the right side there is holy water which you can take for a meagre donation. The shrine is surrounded with 14 stations of the cross that have been carved on huge boulders of rocks. In between there is a lotus pond and looks wonderful. I have never seen a lotus pond in Canada and this as a surprise to us all. A definite must visit. We loved the place and will definitely visit again if we get the chance to.

We almost felt guilty as it was only just over $3 to get in. The staff are so pleased to teach you all about the history of this fort and how life was back in the 1800's Everyone is in costume and living as they would have back then. Great place to visit.

My favourite place in the area. The spectacular trails are accessible to those with walkers and wheelchairs which is uncommon in a lot of other places. I love to go see the deer but do wish people would stop feeding them as it's really not a good thing to be feeding them.
