Things to do in Washington DC, District of Columbia (DC): The Best Gear Rentals

September 7, 2021 Weston Hennigan

Washington DC is a hub for American politics and history. Attracting as many school field trips as it does travelers the district offers a peek into the country’s democratic origin. There are plenty of free museums to take advantage of but the real draw here is the memorials and monuments dedicated to great American leaders. Spend some contemplative time at the Reflecting Pool within the National Mall, among the most patriotic places in the country.

We rented a double Kayak on a Monday morning for 2 hours and had a fabulous time. The folks that work here are so nice and make the whole experience easy and fun. The Kayaks are clean, the price is right and if your are staying in Foggy Bottom this is the easiest place to rent from. They also have bikes and canoes. We had a great time and loved our time on the river.

Big Wheel bikes

Reviewed By CharlieWu - Arlington, United States

I had a flat tire riding along Rick creek on a Sunday morning. I was able to navigate back (Bike on one wheel & Walk on my clip shoes) to Georgetown. I was so excited to see Big Wheel Bike on the corner. BUT, do they open? Yes, they open at 10:00 am on Sunday. I was lucky. OH, I was in a rush and I forgot to bring money with me. Will they take care of me???? I went inside and asked if I can borrow tools to fix my flat and if they have a patching kit that I can use. Yes, here are the tools, but we do not have patching kit. However, we do have inner tubes you can buy. BUT, I do not have any money. Is it possible that I call you and give you my credit card number ? Walker said: NO Problem. It happens sometimes.... What a great service and trust you (Big Wheel Bikes) have in us, Bikers!

Checked the online reviews to find a convenient way to see Washington, DC. Very happy with the ride share options of Capital Bikeshare. Made seeing each of the National Mall monuments easy to see on our 16 miles of biking around. (Prepare for an upcharge if you don’t re-dock the bike every 30 minutes. $19 instead of $8 which was fair in my opinion). Note- The bungee cord to hold backpacks or purses wasn’t very secure. Many places to buy bottled water while biking. And most of the monuments have public restrooms until closing at national Park hours . Plastic Water bottles can be squeezed into the base of the front rack. (Thanks to a street vendor for showing us that detail). A wonderful way to experience the city for grownups- these bikes are too big for kids.
