The ivy league campus is ideal for a stroll, where some interesting buildings may be visited.

Reviewed By johnbZ8051LU - Princeton, United States

Princeton University is many things: quaint, with one of THE most beautiful campuses in the world (and where the word “campus” was coined in the 19th century); historical, as George Washington defeated the British for the first time in the Battle of Princeton on January 3, 1777, and marched down its Main Street in pursuit with his aid Captain James Madison (a graduate of the college) while his Captain of Artillery Alexander Hamilton canonnaded Nassau Hall, the college’s main building where the British were quartered; intellectual, as a college town often is, but in Princeton’s case moreso with such luminaries as Albert Einstein living there, working at the Institute for Advanced Study, one of the world’s most prestigious think tanks: and finally gracious, as many of its older faculty houses reflect a bygone era of serenity and spaciousness. Princeton University, founded in 1746, is the smallest of the Ivy League schools, yet one of the most influential if any United States colleges in terms of its alums attaining the highest of positions: several Presidents of the United States, Secretaries of State, Federal Reserve chairs, three current Supreme Court Justices, several heads of foreign goverments, world renowned scientists, an astronaut, famous actors, corporate and financial heads, a Heismann Trophy winning athlete, highly decorated military leaders, and a faculty which has made it one of the top ten research universities in the world, with 63 Nobel Laureates, Turing Award Laureates, and hundreds of other prestigious awards. Its Chapel is the third largest college chapel in the world, seating over two thousand. The university campus occupies one side of the entire Main Street of the town evoking a hint of Oxford or Cambridge, not accidentally. It is a university and town worth a visit to soak in its rich and long history as well as its incomparable dedication to academics, culture and the pursuit of higher knowledge in service towards a better world.

My wife and I attended IU from 79-83. Our 23 year old son graduates from IU in 5 weeks. First, it's a top notch school with nice, clean kids and a beautiful campus. We have visited our son frequently the past few years. If you want to visit IU here are some of our favorite ideas... 1 Park at the square in downtown Bloomington, walk down Kirkwood to feel the youthful energy, enter the campus, stop in the Union to check out the art and the book store, and continue along the Jordan River to the far side of campus. Take an uber back to your car. 2 Time your trip to coincide with an Opera. Best opera school anywhere and great performances of popular and not popular operas. 3 Eat breakfast at The Runcible Spoon one day even if there is a line, the next day eat breakfast at The Uptown Cafe order two cornmeal pancakes. 4 avoid he campus on busy game days.

We were staying at a nearby cabin when the kids noticed this rescue when we drove by and begged us to take them. Honestly, we weren’t expecting much but then we read the positive reviews which piqued our curiosity. Every positive review is absolutely accurate!! We had a gloriously wonderful time and the kids (ages 13&11 and animal lovers)didn’t want to leave. The owner, Ms Susanne, is such a lovely, kind person and everyone that works there is just as nice. Wish we could come visit and volunteer here everyday!! If we are ever back to this area, we will definitely come back and visit this sanctuary!!

Tucked away on the North side of Virginia Beach is a hidden treasure, a beach and campground, nature preserve and set of hiking trails. First Landing is popular, for those who know where to find it. I find myself going there all throughout the year as a way to enjoy a bit of nature in an otherwise urban life.

Although not comparable to nearby Harvard, this is nonetheless a beautiful campus. Buildings are fine old brick structures reminiscent of the old world. The fence bordering the main heart of campus is a thing of beauty in itself, and bears dates which commemorate events and persons integral to the founding and early years of Brown U. The Brown family home can be seen close by and modest by present presidential mansions of other universities. Take the time to venture out to visit this sprawling campus.

Old Sturbridge Village

A recreated New England village, with authentic period buildings, provides vistors with an intimate view of life in the early 1800s.

Reviewed By GaryW18 - Wakefield, United States

I visited OSV today and full disclosure I am a member. Honestly, it was amazing to see what they have done to try and make the experience authentic for the guests considering the constraints which have been placed on them by the state. Some of the things I noticed were first they provided just as much if not more in the way of interpreters in each of the buildings. Ingeniously, they opened the windows and doors and had the interpreter stand inside in order to maintain the necessary distance. All were as usual dressed in costume and were more then happy to impart information. When the building would not work for this method of presentation they erected a variety of canopies all looking as if they had been made out of a muslin or canvas which fitted in beautifully with the time period. They all seemed unique which made it look like each household had created their own. These were roped off to maintain the appropriate distance but this was hardly noticeable. As for masks they made sure that each person who was presenting had a mask that coordinated with the outfit so it was actually not even noticeable as if it were natural for the wearer to have a face covering. The blacksmith had on a simple muslin type mask while some had calico and others colonial prints that fit in perfectly. It is this attention to detail that helped make the experience enjoyable. This is something I cannot say for any of the places I have visited this summer and certainly so much better than the embarrassing presentation at Mystic Seaport. I would also like to mention the people who work and volunteer there. This stands out more than anything. Having a love of history and being a teacher, I have visited many living history museums and by far and away the people who work at Sturbridge are the most approachable and frankly nice! They do not project the elitist attitude which I have encountered in Williamsburg, Plimoth and Mystic Seaport. They are always willing to answer the questions my grandson asks and he asks many! Now more than ever these living history museums need to look at the way they portray themselves if they wish to survive. I love the way OSV has presented many types of entertainment which use the village as a backdrop such as Christmas by Candle Light, Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and even Charlotte's Web for my grand children. I went today with very low expectations due to the mandates issued by the state and was more than pleasantly surprised. I only wish that we could have gotten the chocolate chip cookies, but one cannot have everything. PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE VISIT! This place is a true gem and you will not be disappointed. I have written several reviews of OSV over the years and I really feel like they listen to their patrons.

If I had know how much there was to see I would have been there when it opened. There is so much to see, first the USS ALABAMA, there are 3 different self guided tours of the ship taking you from the engine room to almost the top of the ship, you do need to be good on stairs as some are steep, or you can just wonder about. Then there is the Submarine, then there are the plane's, then there are the vehicles and lastly the monuments. To get the best out of your visit allow 5 hour's a day would be better.

I've loved this campus since I first visited for football and basketball games against my alma mater, UCLA. And during my law school days across the bay, I'd escape to study at the Boalt library on occasion. I returned for a visit during my first post Covid trip to the Bay Area. It was great to see the timeless beauty of the campus and marvel at all the new construction. Glad the old stand bys are still there, too (Rasputin's, Bear's Lair, Golden Bear, Smokehouse). During my grad school days, we often said that you could see the bell tower from SF on an exceptionally fine, clear day. And I'm here to say that during my recent visit, I could see clear to the Golden Gate Bridge from my vantage point at the base of the bell tower. Happily, some things only get better with time.
