Things to do in Ubud, Bali: The Best Cultural Tours

January 5, 2022 Ying Subia

The village cluster of Ubud is the ideal place to try a famed Balinese massage and soak up the ambiance of one of Asia’s top spa destinations. Acupressure, reflexology, stretching and aromatherapy star in the island's distinctively firm massage treatments. Ubud is also the vivacious center of Bali’s arts scene, home to a small treasure trove of museums and galleries. Monkey around at nearby nature reserve Monkey Forest Park, home to hundreds of mischievous long-tailed macaques. Don’t miss the valley of tomb cloisters at Gunung Kawi.

We employ Smile Bali tour on our recent trip to Bali and it was delightful. Top notch service, Professionalism, local knowledge and great value. We use their service for: 1. Airport Pickup 2. Private tour of Ubud: Monkey Forest Ubud, Tirta Empul Temple and Tegalalang Rice Terrace 3. Ubud to Jimbaran travel and shopping excursion 4. Airport drop off We arrange a pickup from the Ngurah Rai airport to Ubud (Westin Hotel) with Smile Bali Tour. Our driver, Mr. Adi, was very courteous, polite and on-time. The owner of the Smile Bali Tour, Mr. Eka, communicate with us via WhatsApp application to ensure the pickup was as planned and Mr. Adi, our driver, also contacted me after we arrive in Bali. The drive was very pleasant and safe, the car was adequate for 3 of us and all the necessary precaution of Health Safety during COVID-19 pandemic was meet. Our driver provides us with a lot of insight of Denpasar and Ubud and took us thru scenic route to see the great landscape of Bali. The drive took us 50 minutes to reach Ubud from the Airport because of no traffic. Because of the great service that Smile Bali Tour provide us during our airport pickup, we decide to ask them for a private tour of Ubud for our family (3 person) where the highlight was Monkey Forest Ubud, Tirta Empul Temple and Tegalalang Rice Terrace. The first stop was the Monkey Forest. The area was quite large but due to COVID-19, there was less visitor there. The Monkey were found all around the forest but in groups. The visit lasted for 1 hour Next stop was the Tirta Empul Temple. The trip took us about 30 minutes from the Monkey Forest thru a scenic route of Ubud. During this time, our driver explain to us the history of the temple also the history of each village that was passed during our trip. It was very insightful and enjoyable to understand why Ubud area was consider the “Art and Culture” area of Bali. The Tirta Empul temple was great and there were several praying ceremonies during our visit Last visit is the Tegalalang Rice Terrace. Although there are a lot of rice terrace in Bali, Tegalalang was the most visible and touristy destination. Not a lot of tourist was present and the rice field itself was not as big. It is enough for us to take couple of pictures. Next we requested Mr. Adi to transport us from Ubud (Westin Hotel) to Intercontinental Jimbaran. Along the way, Mr. Adi inform us the difference culture area of Ubud, including their craft, such as Batik from Tohpati area and so forth. We stop by to purchase some silver craft. We arrive at Jimbaran around 6.30 PM and our driver ensure that we have a great view from the road we travel to see the sunset. His local knowledge of the area clearly help us to really enjoy Bali and a great value for money. The last service we employ Bali Smile tour was the drop off at the Airport from Intercontinental Jimbaran. We took a drive to buy some souvenir (local food stuff) and swing by at Warung Made in Kuta for lunch (3PM). As our flight was at 7PM, Mr. Adi ensure us that we can see or walk around the Kuta beach for at least several hours before he drops us off at the airport. In Summary, the Smile Bali Tour service was above and beyond our expectation. For the value and service, it is a great company to accompany you while in Bali. Thank you to Mr. Adi (our driver) and Mr. Eka (the owner of Smile Bali Tour) who made all this experience possible during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Our guide Wayan was great. I didn’t have to plan a thing besides finding our villa, and we ended up doing and seeing way more than we would have if I’d planned where we were going on my own. We skipped a few things to sleep in and there were no issues. Wayan also took us to a few places that weren’t on the itinerary and there was no issue. Had a great time, no one bothered us, no issues at all :)
