This church is as old as Jesus Christ, built in AD 52. One of the seven churches in India associated with St. Thomas apostle. There is a museum in the premise and also few historic monuments in the church compound.

As the small temporary church was not spacious enough for the convenience of the believers, they tried to build a church conforming fully to their needs and grandeur of the town.

It is believed that the Christians in and around Thrissur are converted from Hindu Brahmin community. St. Thomas, the desciple of Jesus Christ is believed to be arrived in many parts of India and in kerala at Kodungallur or Muziris port. He then moved to Palayur, there had an interaction with the local priests called Brahmins. After some arguments about God, most of the Brahmins accepted his teaching and followed Christian faith. There is a historical museum inside the church premises, a pond, different structures made by rock. It is more than a tourist place, just like a historic place with old traditions of ancient Kerala. Can walk out for 3-4 hours.
