Downtown Crossville

Reviewed By T1037NVdavidw - Crossville, United States

Taking a slow drive through the old Downtown are, I stopped counting at 24 places I could visit. A walking tour of @7 or 8 short blocks, then cross the street is what I recommend. For food, you can go breakfast, lunch to dinner and a snack stop. There's weekend music at 2 locations and throw in the amphitheater for summertime events, along with a downtown Palace Theater. The architecture is worth taking time to visit...many buildings, structures and a couple interesting murals, along with building and site plaques. A military museum and military memorial Park, along with a stone museum, library and the Chamber are right there....take an hour or even half a day...plenty, plenty to see and do.

Stones River National Battlefield

Scene of a significant 1862 Civil War battle fought by 81,000 soldiers for control of middle Tennessee.

Reviewed By ELO_Ohio - Shelby, United States

Stones River NB gets an A+ in my book. Have never seen a Civil War site so well maintained. Maintenance staff mowing, pulling weeds, working on trails, etc. the ENTIRE time we were there. The park rangers were great. Took the cemetery tour and learned a lot of lesser known facts. The driving tour was also top notch with excellent stops; many cool monuments to see. Don’t like history? No problem. This park has paved bike and walking trails all over the place. Only minutes from Murfreesboro...a nice up and coming town; 40 minutes to Nashville. Free admission and an excellent Junior Ranger program. Check it out...you’ll be glad you did.

Chattanooga Visitors Center

Visitors Center available via phone for the most up to date travel information in the city. We share information about Chattanooga and the surrounding region.

These guys were super informative and gave my wife and I great recommendations. In debating moving to Chattanooga was right for us, Ozzie talked us right into it. Provided a ton of information on the economy of the city as well as what neighborhoods to visit. The outdoor community seems to be booming and the history right around the city is very interesting. Definitely recommend paying the center a visit before you venture out anywhere.

Very nice visitor center with lots of books, gifts, trail guides, clothing, kids books and games and - jams and jellies and pickle relishes. the3 Rangers have great hints and in the entry are lots of pamphlets about different aspects of the park: history, trial, falls, etc. there is also a nice area where they have some stuffed animals and insects and birds to begin to learn about the fauna in the park.
