Very beautiful place with incredible views. I hope the excavations will continue, because a large part of the fortress is still unexplored ...

Halkata

Reviewed By TsarShishman - Sofia, Bulgaria

A legendary place in the mountain with an amazing view to the city. Once it was all sea, the legend says, and the ships were using Halkata like a port... If you continue forwards on the top of the mountain you can congratulate yourself with the famous homemade bread with cheese in the old Furna.

The Old Elm

The Old Elm in Sliven is the European Tree of the Year 2014. It's more than 1100 years old but still blossoming every year. It's one of the symbols of the town of Sliven.

Reviewed By danielfrankie - Tsarevo, Bulgaria

The tree is dying... you should take a look at it as its still there. Once upon a time, there was a huge forest of such trees, now its just this last one. Kudos to the people of the city which made it a meeting point and a historical treasure.

Sveti Dimitar church

This is the largest Christian temple in the town of Sliven.

Reviewed By BobYourUncle - Colombo, Sri Lanka

My first visit to a Bulgarian Orthodox Christian Church. My friend and guide tells me that the peculiarity of the construction - in that it is half buried underground - is because, at the time of Turks' invasion, they did not want any structure taller than the local mosque. A look inside is enchanting - so many icons set in a very serene atmosphere.
