Things to do in Savannah, Georgia (GA): The Best Night Tours

April 14, 2022 Leonarda Pillsbury

Charming Savannah is the picture of antebellum hospitality, thanks to period architecture and oak-lined streets. It’s tempting to spend your trip just relaxing on vast verandas and sipping mint juleps, but there are plenty of historical sites and museums to explore. Haunting (and possibly haunted) Bonaventure Cemetery is one of the hallmarks of the city, featuring beautiful obelisks, masses of flowers, and ivy-covered crypts. Dine on fresh seafood and creamy grits for a taste of Savannah home cooking.

We took this tour on 4-6-21, and loved it. My teenagers (18 and 15) were interested the whole time. The stories that were told were interesting and relatable to the whole group. I would do this tour again!

We are both local Savannahians who love and appreciate the Savannah nightlife. As an Irishman, Oisin has a huge appreciation for beer, whiskey, and music. He is a local DJ and musician and has served at multiple wonderful restaurants downtown including 1790 and Prohibition. KT is from Savannah and also loves beer and bourbon. She spent over a year serving at Treylor Park and grew to love fernet far too much. On this tour, you will see at least 2 live music performances at local bars and stop at even more! Take drinks to go and hear history as you stroll to the next stop. Join one of us for a fun time around town while learning true tales and only drinking the spirits.

Inclusions: Professional guide, Local guide

Exclusions: If you are driving, parking is available around the squares for a fee, Alcoholic drinks (available to purchase), Gratuities

KT was an exceptional tour guide! She was great with my 10 year old. She made her feel comfortable enough to ask questions, and gave her answers and stories on a kid level. She took the time to get to know us to figure out what type of information we would like to hear about most. I would definitely recommend this tour! The walking distance isn’t overwhelming, she’s very knowledgeable, and to top it all off you get coffee/tea and chocolate!!

Scott was an excellent guide on the trolley tour. He was very knowledgeable and quite funny. He showed us a lot more of Savannah than we expected. We highly recommend him.

We took The Beyond Good and Evil Tour. Our guide was Megan. She was fun and energetic. She told good stories and she mostly gave what sounded like factual information. The major distraction with the tour was Megan spent a good deal of time scrolling through her phone looking for photographs she had of reported ghost and spirits taken at some of the places we stopped at. Once the photo was found, which took several minutes in some cases, she would then take time to show the photo on her phone to all 20 people on the tour. This is not a bad thing except that much of the time she could not go directly to whatever photo or video she was searching for and wasted a lot of tour time doing this, which in the end seemed to limit the number of “haunted” sites we got to. It would have been much better if she kept her photos organized in a sub folder(s) where she could get to them quickly. Better yet if she had a larger tablet instead of her small phone to store and display the photos with.

Savannah Haunted Pub Crawl is easily the most popular Pub Crawl in Savannah. You'll meet your guide at Tondee's Tavern, which is only about a block away from the River. From there you’ll hear about the ghosts of the slave trade, a voodoo priestess, and we usually end right at Colonial Park Cemetery. Since this is a Pub Crawl everyone needs to be 21 years of age.

Expect 30 or more people on the tour....wayyyyyy too many for such an expensive tour. Price is very high for a cheesy tour. They added their own version of facts about history without anything to substantiate - totally disregarded what historians say. The guide wasted so much time adding useless filler comments and redundancies. This was a ghost tour but he wanted to tell us about Forrest Gump over and over. His delivery was awkward, so it was difficult to listen to him drone on and on about nothing of interest. He really didn't do a good job with the local macabre/ghostly history. This tour company already has your money so they don't care if their product is good. One of the worst tours I have ever been on in my extensive travels.

Old Savannah Tours should understand that their drivers are a reflection of their company and require specific topics during the Tour. The tour I rode on provided information that was white washed and one sided to history. At one point the tour guide said to imagine we were plantation owners waiting for money to come back from overseas from cotton sales... no thanks, I don’t want to imagine I am a plantation owner. I cannot imagine being a plantation owner, it’s disgusting. Savannah’s culture and history is built upon more than the rich white people who lived here once.
