I have been coming down here for the Southern Side by Side Championship for at least ten years. Last year it was cancelled due to Covid but happily it was on again. I like to walk the course as it gives you time to enjoy the scenery as well as meet fellow shooters. There are carts available for rent for those that want them. The course is set up separately for sub-gauge and large gauge shotguns and is challenging as it should be for a Championship. But I must say the "trappers" are as friendly and helpful and anyone could be but follow the rules and score accurately. They keep things light and moving along but there are no lapses in safety and that is a good thing. A lot of people come to this match so it is best to get there early for a good parking spot. I prefer to park on the "hill" and back into the tree line to get some shade. Deep River provides a shuttle cart for getting around and there is a pick up point there. That's a big plus. Food for the event is provided by outside vendors but it is all good. There are porta-potties scattered around the grounds and one is never very far away. It is worth coming to this even just to visit the vendor tents and look at some of the finest examples of the gunmakers art. Overall, if you are interested in vintage guns and shooting, this is one of the better venues to attend.
