April 22, 2022 Major Galusha

Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building. Sit in on a yoga session in Dolores Park or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market

A nonprofit group devoted to sustainable agriculture runs this market 4 days a week.

Wonderful place to visit even if you're on vacation and aren't buying fresh produce. If you are in San Francisco on a Saturday, consider a visit to the Ferry Building. As you approach from Market Street you will find artisans selling their handicrafts, a great place to buy a souvenir. The Farmer's Market itself has all kind of food vendors. All of them serve fantastic food. I particularly like the raw oysters. Find a place to sit and enjoy the view of the bay under the Bay Bridge. Afterward consider a ferry ride to Sausalito or a walk down the embarcadero to Fisherman's Wharf. If you are feeling energetic you can walk all the way to the Civil War Fort under the Golden Gate Bridge.

Heart of the City Farmers' Market

Heart of the City Farmers Market is a uniquely independent, farmer-operated, nonprofit farmers market located year round on Sundays and Wednesdays in San Francisco's United Nations Plaza. An iconic and beloved community resource, the market opened in 1981 with a mission to support and sustain small farmers and make fresh food accessible for low-income customers who struggle to afford adequate nutrition in a city with the highest cost of living in the nation. We distribute over $1.5 million annually in food assistance at our information tent, provide education programs for people facing the nutritional challenges of poverty, manage distribution and redemption for the largest farmers market EBT program in California, and make over $500,000 per year in grant-funded incentives available to help low-income families purchase fruits and vegetables from local farms.

San Francisco Flower Mart

SFFM is one of only five grower-owned wholesale flower market in the U.S. We are the one-stop floral source for Northern California. Over 50 individual vendors answer all your floral needs. Variety is what sets us apart from all others.

If you like flowers, treat yourself to this treasure. It's one of only a few large wholesale flower markets in the country, and is contained down the length and part of the width of a city block. It's spectacular! I've gone to this market for decades to buy flowers wholesale. Fortunately, part of the market stays open to the public after wholesale hours. There are many small businesses within the market, including local growers. Some specialize in particular flowers. Several supply houses offer the widest array of vases you may ever see. Packed carefully, you can put some in your carry-on luggage. I often travel with flowers, and never have a problem. If anything, the TSA employees compliment me on them. This market represents to me hard working entrepreneurs who care about their product. Flowers are a tough business, with I think not a big profit margin .. And now housing has encroached on this location. Very fortunately, a number of vendors have aligned and negotiated with the developer to retain the Flower Market on part of this site, even with housing and whatever else is planned. (They also fought hard for as smart of a development as they could get, and were successful in stopping an earlier, less conscious plan.) Bring cash .. don't add an unnecessary percentage to the vendors, many of whom may not take credit cards anyway. Enjoy the café and the snack bar at the corner too. This really is a special place that even a lot of locals have never seen. Because they aren't reading reviews like this on Trip Advisor!

We have visited the Treasure Fest on three occasions and we LOVE it. It is held on the very beautiful Treasure Island located in the San Francisco Bay off of the Bay Bridge. The views from the Fest are spectacular! There are many unique local vendors and artists offering art, flea market items and various trinkets and treasures. There are many food truck vendors and a few bars also. Typically there are a few musical performers also. This is a lovely way to spend a day. We will surely return. Parking is available and admission price is very reasonable.

SF Art Market

Reviewed By Gooner10-8 - Dublin, Ireland

We discovered this impressive Arts & Crafts Street-Market down near the Cable Car Terminus at the bottom of California Street, 2 years ago, and on our return visit this October to the wonderful City of San Francisco, we felt we just had to have another look around. To our delight, an "Old Friend" (looking distinctly young, it should be said) Ron M. was there at his Stall, personable and friendly as before. Ron crafts highly-attractive Writing Instruments from hardwoods - Ballpoints & Mechanical Pencils mainly. I had purchased two Pencils last time around - this time I went for a Ballpoint (Walnut Burl), while M (my "Better Half") couldn't resist a lovely, slimline Ballpoint (Rosewood) : thanks again, Ron, it was an absolute pleasure to see You again, and we also greatly prize the distinctive Writing Instruments we have bought from you! Now, there's also quite a lot else to look over at the various Stalls at this Market - quite a few offering Jewellery items. One Stall which caught our eyes offered quite a range, but particularly some "Novelty Items" : Rings made from U.S. Quarters, highlighting the DATE, which might hold a significance for the potential Buyer. I must admit I was quite fascinated by this, and selected a Coin-Ring from the year of my Birth (as that year pre-dated 1964, the material, by the way, was 90% Silver!). And, being very pleased with my first purchase, I came back later to purchase another Ring dated the year I left High School - OK, the composition was now Nickel/Copper, but so what? I should add that the lovely Chinese Couple who produce and sell these Rings - Xiang Li & Meiling Chen - were demonstrably appreciative that I came back to make a second purchase, and reflected that in what they charged me - Thank-you! So, we ambled around this rather special Street-Market, and greatly enjoyed much of what there was to see. YOU too should take the time to visit here!
