Are you craving a historical military-based adventure in Barbados? Have you ever wondered what military life was like during the colonial period? Then boy have I got a story for you! I was here to defend this gem of an island and it was nothing like what I would have expected as a soldier. My story is bittersweet, but nonetheless, has to be told. I want to tell you about the prison and the walk of shame I had to endure. About the services offered around the “Savannah” and all the joys that can be drawn from this area despite the hardships that have made it what it is. Join me by the Barbados Museum and Historical Society for a culturally rich journey into history. On this intriguing walking tour, I will show you the Garrison I lived in. The changes it has undergone. All the while paying homage to me by preserving my legacy.

Our tour package, which is tailored for small groups, is aimed at maximizing the authentic experience of a Speightstown tour through the eyes of an informed local. The most defining feature of Speightstown is the 17th century pre-colonial architecture. You will get to visit and learn the stories behind historic buildings that date back to the early settlements as you experience the sense of development that has taken place in the town which is evident by the integration of modern architecture. With forts lining the coasts of Barbados, one would expect that Little Bristol would also have its share of protection. You will also get to interact with the people of Speightstown. The wayside hawkers and rum shops are still very much a part of this town.

We took a private tour similar to the "Beautiful Barbados" tour GloryTours offers on their website, and were very satisfied and truly enjoyed the day. Our driver made every effort to put us at ease, offered possibilities for activities, and we could stop and take our time as needed. We started with a tour through Bridgetown, then heading north along the Platinum coast, with some short stops on the way. Around noon we arrived at Animal Flower Cave, which was nice (and not difficult) to visit. As it was a bit crowded there, we asked whether we could have lunch at a later stage, and he selected a wonderful remote restaurant for us, Chill`n Breeze, which was located on its own at the Eastern coast, run by an old and very friendly couple and providing excellent food. From there we drove towards Bathsheba, where we could spend nice time walking on the beach and looking at the beautiful landscape, before slowly going back to our hotel in Worthing. We would definitely choose GloryTours again if we come back.

The Great House and Distillery tour captures an authentic insight into life on a 17th century plantation showcasing artifacts from Amerindian settlement through to colonial times. The movie c. 1935 is a rare and unique glimpse of this life and also of Barbados at the turn of the 20th century. The attraction is intended to allow visitors to tour at their own pace or have a guided tour while also allowing opportunities to have quiet spaces for reflection and for relaxing within the gardens and landscaped grounds. The cafe offers refreshments and light fare for the visitors taking the tour within the setting of a lush tropical gully. Our artisan distillery showcases our manufacturing in a manner that allows the visitor to be immersed in the processes of making rum for "the sugar cane field to the bottle", viewing the crushing of cane within the antique steam mill allowing them to take away a more meaningful experience of their visit.

Are you yearning for an authentic historic tour of Barbados? Look no further!! Let me show you the Historic Garrison as I share my most treasured and intimate memories of my visits to this area with my father. He often took me back to 18th century Barbados, to a time when the life and times of British military occupation in Barbados was at its height. The shores and forts of Barbados also have interesting stories that I will I share. I'd love to take you for a journey through history as we travel the quaint towns and absorb in the beauty of ancient buildings alongside modern architecture. This guided tour with audio headset is engaging as we tell you about the barracks, the hospital, the forts, the cannon collection, the prison and even the court martial site before viewing the house where George Washington stayed!  A little snack helps pass the time as you are transported to the Barbadian military Garrison of 1705.

This place is imaginative, playful, calming, and thoroughly Caribbean. My children and I visited yesterday and spent a most pleasant early afternoon wandering around this magical space. I even managed to convince them to sit still for a while in a lovely corner of the garden and listen to the soothing sounds of nature (and some meditative music, which was nice). The diversity and health of the plants is impressive, as is the generosity of the owner/gardener Anthony Hunte. We sat and had a socially distanced chat with him, as he was happy to speak with all the visitors who came in for a visit. We will be back soon! We signed in at the front, used hand sanitiser at the beginning and were reminded to do so at the end after touching the handrails.

Nicola was our guide and she was fantastic. Met us as scheduled and then we spent about four hours walking through Bridgetown, Barbados, stopping at four places to eat. Nicola discussed history, architecture and most importantly the food we were going to eat. There was a good variety of places we stopped as well as the types of foods we sampled. One of the best tours we have taken in the Caribbean. If you are in Barbados, definitely try them!
