San Giovanni Battista's Cathedral

It was the noontime bells ringing from this Cathedral that lured me over there during a short stay at Ragusa. It was a great experience to enter there and share time for prayers, knowing that millions of other people before me through the ages, did exactly that.

Chiesa San Giuseppe

In Piazza Pola, a bit further down from the duomo, this church is well worth a visit. It has a lovely baraoque facade which is a little like the duomo but on a smaller scale. Lovely interior.

Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Scale

Reviewed By SallyF906 - Northampton, United Kingdom

We walked from Ragusa Ibla to visit this church and weren't disappointed although we were very hot as you have to climb over 300 steps to get there - definitely worth it though. Built in C14th on the site of a Norman convent, it was rebuilt after the earthquake but it still has it's original Gothic portal and bell tower. The C16th terracotta image of the Virgin Mary is fabulous.

Chiesa di San Giacomo Apostolo

Reviewed By SallyF906 - Northampton, United Kingdom

The original church was built in C13th by the Chiaramonte family but was destroyed in the earthquake and rebuilt in C17th. It can be found within the Giardino Ibleo. The facade has 3 levels - the lower with the door, an upper level with a window and the bell tower. The interior has a wooden ceiling built in C18th and several altars on each side of the nave. Worth a look inside.
