Things to do in Queenstown, South Island: The Best Shopping

October 20, 2021 Terina Blouin

Staggering beauty and heart-pumping thrills await in the resort town of Queenstown, which is also known for its Hobbits—much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed in the area. Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Queenstown for the kayaking, bungee jumping, jetboating, white-water rafting, hiking and skiing. More mild-mannered adventurers can take a quiet cruise through nearby Milford Sound, part of the Fjordland National Park World Heritage area, or sample South Island pinot noir from one of the region's 75 wineries.

Frank's Corner

Reviewed By Britdrnva - Great Falls, United States

Queenstown is chok-a-block with touristy stores all selling the same stuff you can get in Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, etc - tshirts with Queenstown, hats with Queenstown, etc, etc. Frank's Corner is a great little find - this is a true gem of a store - it has hand-made artisan products from local artists from Queenstown and surrounding areas. There is a wide array of bits and pieces that will strike your fancy and the prices are quite affordable. The proprietress Alison was super cool and personable and on-hand to answer any questions you had. Frank's Corner has jewelry, yarn, clothing items (belts, hats), garden stuff, and more. I bought some socks from there and wish I bought more they are so comfortable! Do yourself a favor and give this place a go. It is a nice break from all the tourist traps that sell the same things as every other tourist store around the world.

This is just what a great local market should be. It's not huge but the stalls are high on quality. Plenty of food, drink, coffee, plants, arts and crafts, plus live music to keep you entertained. A real positive is that all the stalls I bought from have the facilities to pay by plastic.

The Remarkable Sweetshop - Queenstown

Established in 2004, Remarkable Sweet Shop offers three exciting stores; stunning central Queenstown, historic Arrowtown, and Queenstown Airport - each offering their own unique personality and flare. Our traditional sweet shops are famous as a destination for our floor-to-ceiling extravaganza of imported and local sweets and chocolates, homemade fudge and nougat; and exceptional service and interaction with our specialist staff, who offer free fudge tastings to everyone.

Reviewed By holiday2travel - Tauranga, New Zealand

Every year we visit Queenstown we are drawn in to get our sugar fix whether it be Lolly type sweets, handmade chocolates or fudge or gifts for someone special. If you aren’t too much into sweets you will soon be, hundreds or maybe thousands of choices from floor to ceiling, always packed with customers even after 7pm at night or just lookers, fascinating to visit. Also just as busy in the Arrowtown shop.
