Bedse Caves

Reviewed By 952viragr - Pune, India

A place where history and religion come together. Probably the most oldest caves of India. Bedse cave are located at around 60km from Pune and around 10km from Kamshet. Bedse caves are of Hinayan type of buddhist caves and a complex of caves can be seen here. The caves can be divided in two parts as 1) Chaityagruha - Place to worship 2) Vihar - Place to stay for monks Chaityagruha is huge and is facing east, so morning rays beautify the place. It has a huge stupa and a wooden structure can be seen at top.Entry to chaityagruha is carved from rock by narrow aisle in the rock Vihar is adjacent to Chaityagruha and has several rock cut rooms for monks and disciples to stay. There are few water tanks in the area and one of them has stone inscription in scripted on the wall near tank. The place provides calmness to mind and soul. Car/ two wheeler can directly take you the base of this caves and hike of few steps will land you at the front of caves. Do add this place in your itinerary for places around Pune

Bhimthadi Jatra

Reviewed By chinmayee667 - Pune, India

I was eagerly waiting for the Bhimtadi. This is my great shopping destination, as I largely wear handlooms, I shop at the jatra for clothes that i use the whole year. With the NCP supremo Sharadrao Pawars strategy on the recent forming of the government in Maharashtra, I thought the jatra had a n upbeat feel. The ""select"" stalls were good as always. Om Crafts from kutch had lovely handloom materials and beautifulyl stitches kurtas. A half stall by a bhuj based self taught artisan weaver and seamstress had wonderful upcycled clothes. The regulars were there too, Aakar potters, Village art with their lovely linens and Dwarka with their kalamkari. Was good to see love of the loom too. The food stalls with papads, lonchi, chutney had large buyers. The new ones were the guava sellers. large lovely guavas for rs 100 a kilo. Bers were also being sold. Food was lip smacking, pooran polis will never cease to excite me over here, the hurda, the fish thali, mutton thali, the bhakri, the taak, all wholesome meals, with a rural feel. A new aspect was the feedback counter... where people were giving feedback and volunteers were collecting this in earnest. This jatra is always a pleasure though the entry ticket price has gone up by Rs 20. this doesnt seem to be a deterrent as crowds swell by afternoon. Fun Jatre.
