We spent 90 minutes in the vineyards with our wonderful tour guide. He provided the essential history of the Priorat region and displayed his deep knowledge of the terroir and the challenges of growing in this environment. The tour was followed by a tasting of some of the wines produced by the Barbier family.

Celler Burgos Porta

We are a Priorat DOQ vineyard and have been dedicated to viticulture since the 19th century. The Burgos Porta estate produced its first organic wine in 2003, crafted with traditional methods. The vineyard is found at Mas Sinén, a farm which has been in the Burgos-Porta family since the 17th century. Typical of the Poboleda region, Mas Sinen is in a small valley surrounded with vines planted in steep terraces, among a mixture of arable land and Mediterranean forest. The oldest vines, Carignan and Grenache, were planted in 1950. The estate extends over 15 hectares, ranging between 300 and 500 meters above sea level. The vines are grown on the north-eastern slopes surrounding the winery, with views of the majestic Serra de Montsant mountains. The Burgos-Porta family crafts four wines, each of small vintage, each a fine quality product that embodies all the essence of the Priorat soil and its unique llicorella terroir.

A visit at this winery is an experience for all senses: before you get there, you get bounced about on the dirt track leading up to it. Once there Salvador or his wife Conchita take you around their vineyards, up the steep hills, along the terraces full of vines and back to the winery. Once you've seen the soil, tasted he water and the herbs on this lovely hillside, taken in the fantastic view of the Montsant and enjoyed Salvador's enthusiastic explanations, the wines of this small, family-run winery will make you want to come back. And wherever you drink a Priorat wine from now on, it will bring back memories of this fantastic place.

The setting! The views! The wines! But best of all, the guide! We such an amazing time on our visit, I can't decide where to start! We had actually been to the Cartoixa months previously (also amazing). When we told our friend, she asked if we also did a tour of La Conreria. She couldn't believe we'd missed it! We are wine lovers so she told us it was worth the drive to go make the visit. I'm happy to say she was 100% right! After helping us understand all their COViD safety precautions (we felt very safe the whole time), we began our tour! We were able to walk through their vineyards, meet Paco (you need to ask to meet him, he's a vital part of their team and so hard working!) Our guide Natalia even let us taste directly from the tanks AND the barrels - basically a vertical tasting of 2017, 2018, and 2019 Garnacha - it was soo cool to taste the evolution! After that, she led us upstairs to a glass walled room for the 'real' tasting portion of the tour! We thought we had already done the tasting!! Really, it all came together to make such a great package and excellent value for money on our visit! I was so impressed by the quality of wines, the hardest part was deciding which bottles to take home!

Then we sampled the excellent range of white, red and desert wine with olive oil and bread accompaniment. We contacted the day before though messenger to book the trip. Well worth a visit!

We were a group of 4 people. First we ate at the restaurant that belongs to the wine cellar that is right next to where the wine tasting guide begins. The food was great, a very complete menu, with wine, coffee and dessert and came out for about 25 € per person approximately. We just ate and in a short while the theatrical wine tasting began. It lasts about 2h30. It became very enjoyable and fun, a different way of explaining how the production of the wine they produce works and why the names of the different wines. Right after all the explanation we went tasting 4 different wines. Once finished you can buy any wine at a good price. Highly recommended in all aspects.
