Exciting concerts, where you can recollect the passions of Tosca, the emotions of Madama Butterfly, La Bohème and La Traviata, the prank of Il barbiere di Siviglia and much more… A memorable trip into the Italian Opera, made even more enjoyable by the evocative and intimate atmosphere in which it takes place: the deconsecrated Church of Santo Stefano. From March to November: every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9.15 pm

Il Teatro Povero di Monticchiello è un progetto sociale e culturale nato negli anni ’60. Agli inizi di quel decennio il borgo toscano attraversa una profonda crisi collegata alla rapida eclissi del sistema economico e sociale che aveva caratterizzato per secoli la sua esistenza: la mezzadria. Lavoro, cultura e tradizioni vanno rapidamente scomparendo e la popolazione si dimezza. Quelli che per scelta o necessità rimangono iniziano allora a riflettere sul senso delle rapide trasformazioni che stanno travolgendo il loro mondo e le loro identità. In un paese senza un teatro viene cosí deciso di aggregarsi attorno a un’idea di teatro in piazza: una forma di spettacolo che diverrà presto tentativo di ricostruzione collettiva e ideale del senso delle proprie vite. Una forma di resistenza alla crisi.
