LIS Lucca Italian School - Day Class

LIS is a school of Italian language and culture located in the city center, in a very nice building with a large garden and a terrace in front of the city walls. We offer group courses and individual classes of Italian for students any age and level, and recreational activities (like excursions, cooking lessons, bike trips, seminaries on Italian cinema or music). Our mission is to provide our students, beside teaching them our language, with a practical and enjoyable experience of our way of life, aiming at a mutually enriching cultural exchange.

I had a wonderful time in Lucca. I stayed the whole month of November and attended LIS every weekday and went on all the after school outings. Grazie Angelo! It was a fabulous month. The teachers and administrators are really supportive and it is so much fun. The city is really interesting and my homestay host was awesome. I was really lucky to be included in social outings and there was always lots of conversation. The location is excellent also - I went to Florence, Pisa, Montecatini Terme and Cinque Terre on weekends. Being a football fan i also went to a Lucchese FC game with friends I met in Lucca. I guess I should mention that I learned a lot of italian! my language skills and confidence went way up for sure.

Gioia di Vivere Scuola di Cucina Vegana Naturale

The Cooking School “Gioia di Vivere” is set in the typical Tuscan countryside. We will welcome you in a warm and informal ambient. Our vegan cooking classes are open to all, beginners or expert chef. Our classes are an unique opportunity to learn how important is taking care of each ingredient. We only use food that is: organic, seasonal, whole, balanced, fresh and delicious. Ours is a farm-to-table cooking school so vegetables comes from our own garden and we personally select and buy whole ancient grains flours, local extra virgin olive oil and local wine. Our classes are practical (with vegetarian option upon request) and our Chef will reveal secrets handed down from generations. You will learn the healthiest way to cook ingredients and how food significantly affects our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

I did a 3 day vegan cooking course with Stefania in Lucca, and it was a truly wonderful experience. She arranged everything beautifully. The classes were informal and fun with lots of hands on experience. She taught us not just to follow the recipe but also use our intuition in the kitchen. She also shared lots of tips and tricks from her experience, which was really amazing. In the end, we enjoyed the fruits of our labour by eating everything we cooked in a nice big lunch on all days. The location of my retreat (which was also organised by Stefania) was also amazing- very close to Lucca but at the same time with all the country side charms. I would recommend this retreat to all vegan food lovers. You are sure to have a good time with Stefania and her friends. Remember to give yourself a few extra days before and after the course days to be able to enjoy Lucca and the surrounding areas, as the cooking days are quite busy and full on! Big thanks to Stefania and Gioia di Vivere!

Tom is a professional photographer who retired from full-time photography to start teaching. He is knowledgeable, experienced and has the skill to share his knowledge. Talking about his photos, composition and walking around Lucca to take photos was a morning well-spent. I am grateful for the valuable information. Highly recommended.
