Things to do in Prague, Bohemia: The Best Outdoor Activities

July 26, 2021 Major Galusha

The bohemian allure and fairytale features of Prague make it a perfect destination for beach-weary vacationers who want to immerse themselves in culture. You could devote an entire day to exploring Prazsky hrad (Prague Castle), then refueling over a hearty dinner at a classic Czech tavern. Spend some time wandering the Old Town Square before heading over to gape at The Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock. Prague’s best bars are found in cellars, where historic pubs set the scene for a night of traditional tippling.

Upon departing from the bike shop, your guide will lead you through the winding streets, taking you down to the river Vlatva where you can enjoy a stunning view of the Castle and Charles Bridge. Once you have taken in the sights you will hug the river Vlatva, following it south on the smooth and well maintained A1 bike path. There are plenty of places to stop for refreshments as you follow the river out of Prague. It is also a great place to get a feel for Czech culture as it super popular with local Czechs who are out to do some exercise and enjoy some sun. Once you have left the City behind a new chapter to the tour begins. You will cross over the Vlatva and meet up with the river Berounka, which heads in a mellow southern easterly direction. You will then keep the Berounka company for the vast majority, passing through quaint Czech villages where yet again you will gain a taste of rural Czech life. The Vlatva and Berounka are beautiful rivers, which are full of wildlife, so you won't be short of interesting things to see. You follow the Berounka for 15 km before reaching the final destination, Karlstejn Castle. Once at Karlstejn your tour guide will provide you with some information regarding the little village and the beautiful Medieval castle, which was once home to the crown jewels of Roman Emperor, King Charles IV. Your guide will then take you to a traditional Czech restaurant, where you can experience local Czech food and beer. You will have a big appetite after your cycle so make the most of the feast! Expect to pay around 200czk for your meal. Once you have eaten you have free time to explore the village and the medieval castle. Tours of the castle are run hourly and there are plenty of gift shops if you would like to pick up a souvenir. Once you have explored the castle and village sufficiently then you will take a leisurely 5 minute cycle down to the train station where you will board a train back to Prague. The journey back takes about 35-40 minutes and will give you another opportunity to take in some Czech scenery. Once back in Prague it is just an easy 10 minutes cycle back to the shop where you can finish off with a coffee or drink at a local cafe to unwind after a day of biking and sightseeing!
