Things to do in Prague, Bohemia: The Best Night Tours

August 26, 2021 Natalie Tallman

The bohemian allure and fairytale features of Prague make it a perfect destination for beach-weary vacationers who want to immerse themselves in culture. You could devote an entire day to exploring Prazsky hrad (Prague Castle), then refueling over a hearty dinner at a classic Czech tavern. Spend some time wandering the Old Town Square before heading over to gape at The Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock. Prague’s best bars are found in cellars, where historic pubs set the scene for a night of traditional tippling.

I went on this tour with myself and my partner. We were glad we paid extra for a private tour because we would of missed so much information if we just got admission. It was easy to organize at the front desk and we really enjoyed our tour guide Dana! She answered all of our questions and showed so much passion and emotion in the tour. Must do when in Prague!

The driver was so friendly and helpful and gave us a good overview of Czech history and places to visit. He even stopped on the way to the train station to take us to a viewpoint over the city where we could see the river and bridges and take some photos. When we got to the train station he carried our bags for us and took us to the booking desk where he helped to book tickets for our journey to Brno. He even waited to show us which platform the train would leave from. This was so much appreciated as I speak no Czech and was travelling with a young child. His English was perfect and manner was very friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend. This service exceeded all expectations. Thank you.

We often use private tour guides so our kids, 13 and 10, are forced to listen. It’s harder to tune out a teacher when the class size is 4 people. I’ve rarely rated a tour guide because the fact is it’s hard to be wowed by a tour guide. In some ways, the tour guide is like the commentator at a football game. How much you enjoyed the game has little to do with the commentator. While crucially informative, guides always seemed rather scripted - he introduces himself, tells you what’s on the agenda, shows you all the key sites, recites the relevant cultural and historical stuff behind whatever it is you are looking at, and then wraps up with closing remarks. During the wrap-up is usually when he becomes more friendly, more enthusiastic and more humorous. And it works. The intended tip will ratchet up a bit after his well-rehearsed closing skit. We part ways and we remember lots of neat things about what we saw but couldn’t tell you the name or describe the face of any of our previous guides. This outfit was different. We hired them for a 3 hour walking tour around Old Town, New Town and areas just across the Vltava River, hitting all the key sites. Like all our previous guides, Kristian possesses thorough knowledge. What made him different: - he got to know each of us. Not in an intrusive way but so he could further customize the tour to fit us and provide relatable context, as well as go off the itinerary to show us things specific to our interests. - we never felt rushed. This was a 3 hour tour and it strayed well past 3 hours, and we never got the sense he wants to move it along. - nothing felt scripted. Kristian is a natural entertainer. He personalized much of the information, and he’s funny, we laughed a heck of a lot. Whether he’s just a very talented actor or is genuinely having fun, it didn’t matter. We had a great time while getting informed, and my 10 year old son especially enjoyed Kristian’s company. After the city walking tour, we contacted Kristian that evening to see if he could accommodate a tour of the Sedlec Ossuary in Kutná Hora for day after tomorrow. This was an hour drive from our hotel in Old Town. He got his colleague Petr to drive, and it was another super time. Both of them were very knowledgeable. Petr’s slow, dry humor complemented Kristian’s animated energy. The day was fun, funny, entertaining and informative. I also got convinced that it’s all genuinely unscripted. While Kristian may have acting skills, Petr clearly does not. They really have passion for their work. The name of the company fits. Indeed it felt like local friends were showing us around town. As hard as it may be to fathom, these guys actually did make memorable Prague that much more memorable.

I loved this walk, it is in the most adored area in the city and at night it is the perfect time to see it empty and also discover the beauty of Prague at night. Our guide was Casey and he turned out to be a fantastic story teller, who was able to add the mystery in each stop we had during this walk. I would recommend it, if you have the time and are fascinated by the alternative.

A unique chance to discover Prague's romantic Castle in a different light -- all lit up, and without the big tourist crowds. Starts at: 7PM: October 16th - April 30th 7.30PM: May 1st - October 15th Not an art history lecture, not a traditional guided tour. It is more of a stroll, a chance to absorb Prague's Romantic atmosphere, to take great pictures, and to see "the city of 100 spires" all lit up. We don't visit inside Parliament or inside Saint Vitus. We walk the castle grounds from top to bottom. Also includes a ride on Prague's romantic 22 cable car. The light keeps changing. And it varies according to the time of year. This 1.5-hour tour explores Prague Castle, the largest fortress complex on the planet, at night.

Inclusions: Local guide, Tram ride

Exclusions: Hotel pickup and drop-off, Due to the late hour, we are permitted to walk the grounds, but we do not enter the buildings

We booked a castle night tour on a Friday for the upcoming Sunday. I received an email in the middle of the day on the Sunday cancelling our tour without any attempt to accommodate us. I explained that we waited to visit the castle during this tour and would be departing the next morning. My response fell upon deaf ears. Thankfully I found Naked Tours and explained our predicament. They set us up with a private castle night tour with a rock star guide. I guess Discover Walks cancelling us was a blessing in disguise. I caution everyone in booking with this company, their business practices are 1 star, never again for me!

This was truly one of the magical experiences in Prague! We came for our honeymoon and it was just romantic and beautiful to see the city at night, with soft jazz music playing. We sat on the top deck and took on the views of the city. Totally enchanting. Also, this is a great activity to do if you want to remain socially distant. I sat with my husband at a table and everyone was spread out across tables far from each other. Very intimate but also very safe. Cannot recommend it enough.
