Things to do in Prague, Bohemia: The Best Jazz Clubs & Bars

May 16, 2022 Ying Subia

The bohemian allure and fairytale features of Prague make it a perfect destination for beach-weary vacationers who want to immerse themselves in culture. You could devote an entire day to exploring Prazsky hrad (Prague Castle), then refueling over a hearty dinner at a classic Czech tavern. Spend some time wandering the Old Town Square before heading over to gape at The Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock. Prague’s best bars are found in cellars, where historic pubs set the scene for a night of traditional tippling.

In the neighbourhood of Mama Strana, downhill from the castle, you find this friendly jazz club where to have a really great time. At the pub upstairs they serve a good selection of local beers and what van be considered essentially pub food with a touch of eastern Europe. I had a pork chop with rosemary potatoes, My wife had goulash. Everything was excellent. Downstairs, you have the concert hall. Be advised: the number of tables is limited so you'd better book in advance. The ticket price was reasonable, and the quality of the musicians outstanding. Pretty long concert as well! Really enjoyed. On my way back, I couldn't find a uber because the connection was just bad. Staff helped me to find a local cab driver: they were extremely friendly. I loved this place! Will coke back if I'll ever be in Prague again soon. In the meanwhile, you readers go!

Jazz Republic

The music club Jazz Republic has held concerts since 1997 pretty much without a break. Aside from providing a space for predominantly Czech musicians, the club management has also introduced the Prague audience to foreign artists representing multiple genres. A number of remembrances of these unforgettable concerts, signed posters and photographs decorate the club and form its unique atmosphere. It is mainly the concert dramaturgy, that determines the character of the Jazz Republic and is unique in Europe and probably even the whole world. We cooperate with approximately 30 top Czech jazz musicians, that as residential artists compose ad-hoc music formations performed at the Jazz Republic. Each concert is therefore special, because it will never repeat itself with the specific constitution and repertoire. This is our tribute to jazz music and its basic constructive process, musical improvisations.

Amazing place to come before 9. You have different jazz groups playing every night. They are great. We bought nachos and a €12 bottle of wine. It was so nice that the next day we went there again.
