Aveiro and Belmonte were the centers of our private tour and Diogo took us to about nine different historic sites. The hotel accommodations in Belmonte were first class and every restaurant Diogo had arranged for us seemed even better than the last. Diogo has excellent English. I am the only one of the four travelers with no Portuguese. He is a great driver and a most expert and knowledgeable tour guide.

With an approximate duration of 3 hours, we will start by discovering why they call this territory the “Kingdom of Stone”. The exploitation of aggregates is the main source of income in the region and the use of limestone is evident in the old mills (or what remains of them), houses, walls ... We will visit some of the most emblematic and most beautiful geological formations where you can take some photos. We will discover dinosaur trails and fossils of marine animals. The “dry stone walls” mark the landscape and delimit land where cattle still graze today. We will end at the viewpoint of Pebada over Porto de Mós, from where you can see the whole valley and the Castle, with its green tiles, dominating the village.

I used to be a travel writer based in London, so I've taken quite a few tours. I want to tell you that, in my experience, this is one of the best I've had - very warm, personal, and well-informed. My husband and I wanted an 'orientation' to the Parque Natural de Serra de Aire e Candeeiros, but what Hernâni gave us was far beyond our expectations. He was patient with our non-stop questions and took us through the park and its small hamlets to see dinosaur footprints, explaining the hill formations carved by rushing water and quarrying of limestone over the ages, showing us artistically painted azulejo tiles that unfolded the story of the production of olive oil , and others that paid homage to locals who fought in foreign wars. We visited little lakes and an ingenious water capture and filtration using local materials that provides water for the precarious little farms, and treated us to hot rosemary and fennel tea with gorgeous pastries made by his wife, Teresa. We heard about the history, geology and customs, visited an old corn windmill just as a local lady sprinted across the stony outcrops driving her sheep before her. It was a timeless scene that brought everything to life. There was much more - misty morning views of olive groves and cottages that gave way, as the sky cleared, to far views of the rolling hills and craggy outcrops. Lots of opportunity to see, get out and walk and simply enjoy the beauty of this fascinating part of Portugal. A first-rate tour from an excellent guide. Highly recommended!!

With an approximate duration of 3H, we will discover one of the few water points on the surface in the Lagoons of Arrimal. These support a huge number of species of plants and animals that find the ideal place to grow here. We will find abandoned windmills, the wells and cisterns show the need for humanity in the collection and preservation of a high-value resource, water. Ecopista marks the use of the old train line that used to transport coal from the Bezerra mines. We will ascend to the top of the mountain by roads that take us to places with fantastic views over the coast. If we are lucky we will see the ocean and identify the Berlengas Islands. The “Arco da Memória” marks the limit of the Coutos de Alcobaça and the beginning of the lands of the King. It is the memory of the History of Portugal here celebrated in a building of “Arco triumphal” style.

Lisbon Van Tours

Come and visit the Monastery of Batalha, built by King Dom João I in 1386 to thank Our Lady the victory of Portugal at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385 against the powerful Spanish army. This battle marks the beginning of the Second Dynasty and opens the way to the great Maritime Discoveries of the 15th and 16th Centuries. The Monastery of Batalha is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and it took more than a hundred years to be built, spanning several reigns. In 1983 the monument was classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. Travelling 130 km from Lisbon, enables us to discover the hidden natural beauties of Central Portugal. We'll visit the historic Salt Pans of Rio Maior and Serra de Aire and Candeeiros Natural Park. A typical lunch in a local restaurant on the heights is recommended. Henrique was our guide for a delightful day designed around our specific interests and temporarily limited mobility. We visited Estoril ( where we learned "Casablanca" was filmed), Cascais, a mountain viewpoint in the Serra da Sintra National Park with spectacular views of the coastline, Sintra itself but briefly because of the crowds, and on the way home, the Queluz Palace. Our day was all the more interesting because with his extensive knowledge of Portuguese history Henrique was able to put everything we saw into a more comprehensive context. Regrettably we don't know Portuguese so his facility with foreign languages was a vital contributor to our enjoyment. The day was also a wonderful eating experience because of Henrique's familiarity with the region, including a morning espresso and traditional pastry at Cascais and delicious lunch at at a restaurant where we are pretty sure the other guests were entirely Portuguese. Without hesitation we thoroughly recommend taking tours with Henrique!

We did the caves boat trip. First we were happy to find our « driver » as the company is very discreet on internet but also in the Marina area. Then we did the boat trip to see the caves. We were 6 on a small boat (max 10 people) and the tour was 1h15 as planned. We saw the most interesting things. Our driver was not really expressive ???? but did the job.
