Musee et Site gallo-Romains du Fa

Dans un panorama exceptionnel au-dessus de l’estuaire de la Gironde, le site archéologique du Fâ à Barzan vous accueille pour un voyage dans le monde gallo-romain. Il dévoile peu à peu une ville portuaire antique, l’une des plus importantes de la façade atlantique. Vingt-cinq années de fouilles ont permis d’appréhender l’aspect de la ville portuaire, peut-être la « Novioregum » de l’Itinéraire d’Antonin. D’une superficie d’environ 50 hectares et dotée d’une riche parure monumentale, on y trouvait des espaces sacrés (sanctuaires), des thermes, de grands axes, de larges esplanades, un théâtre, des entrepôts et des habitations. La ville doit son essor à son emplacement stratégique, au carrefour de voies terrestres, maritimes et fluviales. Visites guidées et animations pour petits et grands s'y déroulent d'avril à octobre.

In this museum, you will find out the old way of making barrels & wheels. Come and discover the original tools of the wheelwright and the cooper. Open July & August. Tuesday to Saturday. Guided tours available in English at 10.30 am & 3 pm (except for tuesday mornings).
