Things to do in Phuket, Thailand: The Best Points of Interest & Landmarks

May 27, 2021 Malia Yoakum

Thailand’s largest island is an international magnet for beach lovers and serious divers, who enthusiastically submerge themselves in the Andaman Sea. Blue lagoons and salmon sunsets make for a dream-like atmosphere, and indeed, a vacation here can feel a bit surreal. Watersports are the most popular activities, though once you’ve had enough sun there’s still plenty to explore at the island’s aquariums, gardens, and Buddhist temples.

Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong)

Reviewed By Wonga2Wonga

Great place to visit, did so twice. Photographer's paradise. Visited late afternoon, yes there were people, it is an active temple - but never crowded. Guess could be so at peak tourist-coaches hours. Sat evening a night market / food stalls were being set up in the grounds just as the sun was setting. Practically all Buddhist temples visited (and those we just drove past) would be worth a visit if they existed in isolation, due to the elaborate sculptural art that they are so rich in, plus they can look a little samey, but "Wat Chalong" stands out, so if you only visit one on Phuket island, make sure this is it.

A quite big beach in a secluded area of the island. Safe swimming area and lovely sand. A couple of local Layan thai restaurants are scattered along the trees. We enjoy going to the beach from our Pavilions Resort in Layan Beach area.

Wat Khao Rang Samakkhitham

We just got back from Phuket & spent our Christmas break there. I enjoyed this place more than The Big Buddha! I don’t understand why one review said this place is small & not worth it. WRONG! This temple is huge & totally worth the visit! For one, it was practically empty when we went, so we got to enjoy walking around without a huge crowd. This is one of the few less visited temples compared to the other more popular ones, so if you want to avoid a bigger crowd, go to this one! The intricate details on the structures & the “Gods” were impeccable!! Truly a spectacular & solemn place!
