If you're looking for some great Florida beaches but aren't necessarily interested in a mega-resort or theme park atmosphere, Pensacola might just be the place for your perfect weekend. Home to Gulf Islands National Seashore, the city offers some of the best fishing and boating in the area. Inland, canoeing enthusiasts won't want to miss the beauty of the Blackwater River. Closer to town, the city has a proud military heritage, which can be seen at attractions like the National Museum of Naval Aviation and the Pensacola Naval Air Station.

The Pensacola Children's Museum is an interactive, hands-on children's museum for ages up to 11. The first floor Discovery Gallery is geared for younger children to explore Pensacola's 450 years of history. The second floor exhibits themes in Pensacola history for older children. Programming is constantly being updated.
We have been going for a few years and my daughter loves it. The first floor has a mini village the kids can explore and play in. Upstairs has a few displays for older kids. They just added the Publix display and the kids are going crazy for it.

Step back in time to the 1800's. The Quina House Museum is the oldest surviving home in Pensacola still on its original location. Inside you will see how a typical family lived in the 1800. A tour guide will share many fascinating stories about the family, the 1800's and the local area. Located in the Historic Village you will be able to visit many attractions all within walking distance.Free.
Make sure you call either the Quina House number or the visitor center in the Tivoli House by the historic village to find out the hours before you go. One site showed 10 to 2, but it's more like 1-4 pm some days as they have volunteer docents. We really enjoyed Ed Muller's private tour since it was the Saturday before Memorial Day, and it had been closed all that morning. It is free to see, but donations are welcome since this house is not on the historic village tour you pay $7-8 for although it is only a couple of blocks from there. It is very educational to see the oldest house in Pensacola which is mostly on its original foundation (some in the village have been moved to where they are, but are the original materials). Only the kitchen was turned to the back of the house instead of being perpendicular. They have a lot of medical exhibits since a locally famous doctor inherited and lived in the home. Mr. Muller is very knowledgeable of the house, local history, and has genealogical experience I found fascinating. He was very funny and entertaining with his stories of the home and many other things he and my husband had in common. It has a few steps up to the front porch so it is not accessible to wheelchairs, but otherwise, my bad knees made it! It is a historic home so there is no audio tour or wifi. There is a restaurant catty corner from there, but we recommend asking for directions to the Hot Spot Barbecue a few blocks farther uphill from there since it is the best BBQ in town!
