Things to do in Paris, Ile-de-France: The Best Mass Transportation Systems

September 19, 2021 Joeann Galban

Lingering over pain au chocolat in a sidewalk café, relaxing after a day of strolling along the Seine and marveling at icons like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe… the perfect Paris experience combines leisure and liveliness with enough time to savor both an exquisite meal and exhibits at the Louvre. Awaken your spirit at Notre Dame, bargain hunt at the Marché aux Puces de Montreuil or for goodies at the Marché Biologique Raspail, then cap it all off with a risqué show at the Moulin Rouge.

Funiculaire de Montmartre

Reviewed By romanshorner - Munich, Germany

Although it is not original (it was rebuilt in 1991), it is already worth to visit it because of the interesting technology. For climbing the mountain, it is not really necessary as you can use the stairs or if you want to avoid the strenuous stairs you can climb to the church by using an easier way through side roads, especially if you arrive from Abbesses metro station. The ride lasts a bit more than one minute and there is a ride at least every five minutes until at least a few minutes after midnight. You are obliged to keep your ticket until leaving the building, although there is an automatic entrance control. You can use any ticket, which is valid in the metro and you need one ticket for a metro ride for a ride on the funiculaire, with a metro pass for one or several days, you ride for free. Once there, you should also notice the technology of this interesting mode of transport.

Paris Metro

fantastic network of trains that connect every corner of the city.... with trains every few minutes, its the fastest way of getting around... and google.maps easily provides the change overs required to get from one point to another. this is also the cheapest option.... single journey irrespective of the distance and number of changes, is 1.9 euros... but if you buy a pack of ten tickets which costs 15euros... it gets even cheaper. Paris is a city packed with attractions and each area can take a few hours to explore .... so buying tickets can be much cheaper than a full day or multi day pass which gives unlimited travel....

RER

I was a little apprehensive about using the RER B after reading some of the reviews but we had no problems or hassel. Just follow the RER signs from arrivals to the entrance to the platforms for Paris. The automatic ticket machines are easy use, payment by card is the best option. The train only stops at major stations, we got off at Chatelet les Halles, then transfered to the metro for Palais Royal and our hotel. The ticket was valid for the onward journey. The return journey was even better as the carriage was entertained by 2 rappers to much applause.

Arrived Paris when there was a major transport strike. Fortunately Le Bus was operating and saved significantly if I had to take Uber. Frequency was reliable, and there was staff to assist in ticketing. Journey was comfortable. Would definitely recommend for airport transfers.
