Washington Park

This popular park offers miles of trails, an extensive rose garden, a large Japanese garden and a zoo. For information on free shuttles, attraction admission hours and pricing within the park, and maps, visit our website.

My wife and I live immediately adjacent to Washington Park in Southwest Portland. In fact, being close to the Park was one of the major reasons we selected the property we bought. We visit it every week without fail. To start with, Washington Park is immense and gorgeous! It is home to the International Rose Test Garden, Japanese Garden, Holocaust Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, the city's zoo, arboretum and forestry museum, archery range, tennis courts, walking trails, and much, much more. It would be a world-class destination if it only had the Rose and Japanese Gardens, which are extraordinarily beautiful. But perhaps the greatest draw for me personally are the trees - my ancient, stately friends, covering the hilly terrain, providing shade to walkers like me, and peace to anyone seeking a haven in today's chaotic world.

On my trip I was fortunate upon researching that a free entry was being offered at Zoo in Beaverton / Portland border I guess you would say .Anyway, was fascinating to see Black bear , lions and giraffes in person. The kids loved it. Zoo had great directional signage and was well maintained. This experience was exciting to see these other animals that we dont normally see on.a regular basis It also offered hot chocolate and elephant ears dessert treats which was great Would definitely go back to see this wondrous sight. I have been following Kellie Caron since I came across her youtube videos showing her great danes, bobcat and daughter playing together. (early 2008'ish). I believe at the time, she was one of the few breeders with lynxes. On exotic animal husbandry, through youtube, twitter, yahoo groups and other caretakers (such as Pua's owner) - information was shared, and she gave us a glimpse into how to care for delicate keepers, and also the types of animals she was dedicating herself too (cats, birds, monkeys, dogs/wolves, etc). I am really sad to see her efforts went down the tube thanks to jealous internet trolls. She's a perfect example of why so many people who have exotic animals stay clear of social media, publicity and the general public. I just saw the news that her pets/some of her animals have been taken and she has my sympathies. This women has put time, money and round-the-clock effort. I wish her family the best of luck, I hope you get back all your babies, and sadly (because I never reached out directly, and I won't get the treat of your videos, posts, tidbits and pictures), I hope you'll keep your privacy with your next rebound.
