Things to do in Oranjestad, Aruba: The Best Walking Tours

December 6, 2021 Terina Blouin

Boutiques, upscale chain stores and street vendors, as wells as casinos and a wide range of restaurants, dance clubs and bars, make Oranjestad a popular destination in Aruba. In addition to shopping, dining and entertainment, the island's capital city offers museums, a butterfly farm, art galleries, golf, historical sites and a marina. The island's colonization by the Netherlands shows in Oranjestad's Dutch colonial architecture, while the buildings' bright colors are distinctly Caribbean.

You are invited to hike with us along the Spanish Lagoon Mangrove Trail inland to the headwaters where you will find the ruins of the old gold smelter neighbouring the haunted Frenchman’s Pass. Well-informed and enjoyably personal guides will lead you along this mangrove laced trail while explaining all there is to know about this rarely visited part of our island. Aruba’s Art Scene in San Nicolas in the south has 54 murals within three-quarters of a mile of each other. Tito who runs Aruba Mural tours in 2016 arranged for artists to use large walls and entire buildings as their canvas. I think he turned San Nicolas from a ghost town to a real upcoming art district that is worth getting off the beach and seeing. He explains many of these murals with a passion. When here, bring a bathing suit and go to Baby Beach for the calmest water in Aruba

Gold was prospected, mined and processed from the day young Willem Rasmijn found that nugget in 1824 until 1916.
