This wasn't on my radar to see but came highly recommended by a friend. It didn't disappoint. I was early and was the only person on the tour. My guide was very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. It was exciting to see the gold and silver rolls. It also helped getting to see the equipment and workers in action as my guide was explaining the process. The tour was the perfect length for learning about the operation and history as well as being able to see the process. I loved learning the trivia regarding the direction of the profiles on their currency. Especially interesting was the story behind the 2010 Olympic medals all forming a puzzle when they are all put together. The gift shop offers some unique gift options as the commemorative coins cover a lot of different interests and subjects. Don't miss getting to pick up the solid gold bar, which feels much heavier than 28 pounds. Go during the week so you can see the place in action. I don't think it would've been quite as impactful without that. It was fun, interesting and a wonderful surprise all around.

I spent the better part of 4 hours here visiting the numerous rooms depicting Canada's Military History, watching several short videos, and looking at the 3 dozen or so collection on military vehicles and weapons. This is a must see place in Ottawa when you are there. There is also a nice gift shop for souvenirs.

We were fortunate to get a table right by the window.. the revolving restaurant has great views of the city as you are slowly moving... the coolest is to watch the flights taking off and landing into Billy Bishop airport.

Take a streetcar ride from one end to the other. Walk so you don't miss an attraction or event or store. All the big chain stores are here as well as local artisans sell used and new. Every km on this street has something for everyone. East to west your eyes will be exhausted with all the various things to do.

We spent over 6 hours here. There is so much to do and learn from. We liked the different films and the hands on exhibits. We enjoyed the underground tour of the mine it is well worth visiting a good unique experience.

We drove here as something to do during Covid 19 pandemic. Parking is easy, well marked and plentiful. Grounds are very well maintained and there are benches as well as picnic tables. We brought a picnic lunch with us and had a great lunch watching the boats and boaters glide by. The lock system is definitely one to observe and is whisper quiet and fascinating. We will make sure to come again as it was very easy, comfortable and interesting.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Martyrs' Shrine, including the Church and Grounds, is closed for 2020. Please visit our website for interactive content. We will reopen in 2021 on May 1. Martyrs' Shrine is Open from the First Saturday of May through to and including Thanksgiving Monday. Martyrs' Shrine is only National Shrine outside of Quebec, and honours the lives and stories of St. Jean de Brebeuf and his companions who served the Wendat peoples of Huronia living out the Mission of Jesus Christ.

I always enjoy visiting Martyrs Shrine in Midland. It is a beautiful and peaceful place. The grounds are well kept with several shrines to visit, including the papal altar where JPII celebrated Mass in 1984. The Church itself is also a striking edifice atop the highest hill in the area, and beautiful inside as well where relics of the Canadian Martyrs can be viewed and venerated. It can be a little distracting with camera-touting tourists everywhere, but there is a quiet and peaceful place to prayer in the woods called 'Berbeuf's Prayer Garden.' If you need that quiet time while visiting, that's a good place to go. Be aware that there is an entrance fee of $6 when you arrive by car which helps them to maintain the site.

I am curious how many people outside of Oshawa and surrounding areas know about this beauty. To be honest, I had no clue about the Parkwood Estate until my daughter suggested at the end of August to switch from visiting all the parks and conservation areas in GTA we had been focusing on all summer, to exploring some historical buildings. Excellent choice! Our tour guide Morgan made our visit truly memorable. Her knowledge, engagement, enthusiasm, and a friendly approach encouraged all the members of our small group to ask many questions and discuss interesting details about the life of Samuel McLaughlin, founder of General Motors of Canada, his wife Adelaide and their five daughters. Morgan’s vivid descriptions of life in this house supported our imagination and made us all feel like part of the history. We learned that the luxurious interiors at Parkwood represent early 20th century design and we admired fine artwork from famous artists, as well as housewares, books, furniture… I was also impressed by finding out that Parkwood is one of the most popular locations for filming. There is a long list of films that have been shot at this exciting estate, including Murdoch Mysteries, Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story, Chicago, X-Men, or Reign. Many famous movie stars, such as Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Adam Sandler, Ben Affleck, Jane Seymour, Richard Gere, Jackie Chan, Peter Fonda, and Richard Gere have been filming at the estate. The estate is a lovely place, still full of life and when you listen to the interesting stories about those who have been living here, you almost feel like you know this family. Regrettably, we were able to only see the main floor as the rest of the mansion was not accessible, but the beautiful garden with interesting landscape and full of colorful flowers (at that time) made up for it. If you are thinking about spending your next weekend at a gorgeous place, don’t look further. Parkwood Estate will do.

After Niagara Falls we wanted to continue our adventures! We came across these waterfalls after a couple minutes of research. You must have a car to get to these places. Also, keep in mind the grass/dirt; it will gets muddy at times. There are some hiking trails if you’re interested. If you stay in Downtown Toronto (on vacation) I highly suggest checking this place out.
