Kalfshamarsvik

Kalfshamarsvik is a small cove in the northern part of Skagi, with unusual, beautifully formed sea cliffs of columnar rock, created about 2 million years ago. At the beginning of the 20th century, fishing boats plied the waters and there was a small community of about 100 inhabitants at Kalfshamarsvik. However, by around 1940 the village had become deserted.

Active North

One of the things you cannot leave Iceland without doing is riding the Icelandic horse in its natural environment. There is no other horse that is as characteristic as the Icelandic horse and they are as comfortable as a horse can be. Riding into the Ásbyrgi canyon is something that is suitable for beginners and those who are experienced riders. The departure is from Gljúfrastofa visitor centre at 11.00 & 13.30 from June to September. Duration of the tour is 1,5-2 hours.

Aldeyjarfoss

If you have a 4wheel drive you can get directly there ,otherwise you have to walk for few kilometers or hope that someone gives you a lift. It was a cloudy day and no one was there, exept for a couple which we given a ride. A short walk to get there from the parking,a lovely view of the river before seeing the waterfall. You see it from a high point of view , but if you want you can walk down and climb a bit, beware because it could be a bit dangerous. The waterfall il very nice, you can see the falling water swell by the power of the current .

Hofdi

What an utterly beautiful, amazing place! Even in the changing landscape of Iceland, this place is unique in its own right. As we walked through a little silver birch forest, marvelling at its gentle glow in the setting sun, the lake suddenly appeared in front of us with its unusal rock formations, looking like they had been sculpted by a giant's hand. A circular walk led us past many picturesque spots, well worth the visit. To think we nearly missed the place!
