Noni Bacca Winery

I left feeling I had some great wine and met a great Patriot. Sometimes you have to be engaging to be engaged. Noni was very hospitable. We inquired about her wines, how they were made, how she became to be in the wine business and she was very forthcoming and happy to talk about her wines and how they came to be. I’m a sweet and my friend is more of a dry wine drinker, we both found several wines that we really liked. For the price you are going to try a lot of wines and Noni doesn’t just pour you a teaser, she pours you a pleaser. My only disappointment is that Noni and her wines aren’t closer to home as we greatly enjoyed them both!

We love visiting the many wineries available within an hours drive of Black Mountain and Lake Lure. We saw the sign for Parker-Binns for the first time while coming back from another winery. We were quite please with our experience. We were fortunate to be served by Karen the owner and learn about the winery. We did the wine flight, and enjoyed all of the wines. We also had the charcuterie board which was good.

I am not a wine connoisseur by any means, but Chris' Pink Moscato wine was the best I have ever had. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and incredibly smooth with not a bit of bitter aftertaste. The dark chocolate kiss palette cleanser was an extra bonus since I am gluten-free. The selection is respectable and the shop is as cute as can be. This is a definite destination if you visit Maggie Valley

What an absolute GEM!! I honestly was not expecting the quality of wines I was fortunate to sample (and of course buy) from the South Creek Vineyards & Winery. The Cabernet Franc was amazing and my favorite red (okay- I liked ALL the reds) and my favorite white was the Voignier. Had I been driving back home rather than flying, I can assure you I would have certainly purchased more, but my little suitcase only allowed for so much. However, I intend on joining the wine club which the very sweet owner pointed out to me was an option! I read their description on the website which stated their wines were modeled after the Bordeaux region in France and I admit I was a bit skeptical. I mean, a NC winery in Nebo compared to Bordeaux? Well, I was definitely and deservedly knocked off my French wine snob pedestal by the quality of their wines! The back patio was lovely, shaded, and roomy. There was a very good musician playing and a great little food truck with an owner from- yes- FRANCE!! He offered cheese and charcuterie platters and I can assure you they were also a quality product. Perfect compliment to the wine and a really lovely way to spend an afternoon. I absolutely loved this place and really cannot wait to go back next time I am in NC. If you cannot tell my the tone of this review I get excited about wine and these small, boutique wineries with wonderful, friendly on-site owners and staff are my absolute favorites-it was just such an unexpected treasure and I am still so happy I went there. I would encourage anyone who is considering a vineyard and wine tasting to go here- you will not be disappointed!

Childress Vineyards

By opening the doors to Childress Vineyards in 2004, NASCAR team owner Richard Childress fulfilled a longtime dream that grew from the days when he first began racing in California and visited wineries with friends. What began as camaraderie and good times soon became an engaging passion for world-class wines and then the vision to build a world-class winery. After looking at options in California and New York, Richard chose farmland in Lexington, NC located less than five miles from his RCR Racing operations. The location situated Childress Vineyards as the gateway to the Yadkin Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA), North Carolina’s first federally designated region for grape growing. Childress Vineyards is one of the most prominent wineries in the state’s re-emerging wine industry that has grown from 21 to more than 180 wineries since the year 2000.

It was a reasonably priced wine tasting with beautiful Olga. The sweet wine tasting was $12 per person and the dry selection was $15 per person. If you sign up for the sweet selection tasting , the wine club membership is $199 and the dry selection club membership is $250 which both offers 9 bottles of wine to be delivered in September (3) , December (3) , and April (3) plus you take home a large bottle of wine if you sign up for the annual membership with Olga who is excellent. There’s a 20 % discount for wines and 10% at really nice gift shop . With the membership you can order any wines - sweet or dry. We normally would do the dry selection, but we did the sweet wine tasting not knowing the significant different membership prices. All the wines tasted great ! We liked the 3 White , Riesling , and the Sangria - and pretty much all were tasty. The grounds and the Tuscan villa atmosphere rivals Tuscany and Napa which we have visited . Mr. Childress, no doubt, built a lasting vineyard that is a must see in the area . We truly enjoyed it and hope to be back. It’s tastefully done. The gift shop and bistro were nice. There’s plenty of space available for large ceremonies. Great place to stop along interstate travel . Excellent lunch menu ! Tours are at noon and 3 when they are open. Check their website for days closed. Must stop and see it if you are a wine lover.

Shelton Vineyards

Founded in 1999 by Brothers Charlie and Ed Shelton, Shelton Vineyards was envisioned as a new agricultural resource for an area once dependent on tobacco farming. Located in the heart of North Carolina's Yadkin Valley, Shelton Vineyards is 180 degrees from any winery you will find on the West Coast. And when you add in an on-site restaurant that is on my list of places to eat every time I’m in the area, you need to visits Shelton. Plus, a nearby Hampton Inn and another restaurant owned by them makes this the best spot for ending or starting you wine tour.

Raffaldini Vineyards & Winery

Nestled in the rolling foothills of the Swan Creek Wine Appellation within the Yadkin Valley , family-owned Raffaldini Vineyards brings Tuscan charm to North Carolina. Known widely as “Chianti in the Carolinas” Raffaldini currently produces only classically dry Italian style wines ranging from reds like Sangiovese Classico, Montepulciano Riserva, Sagrantino and Grande Riserva with the white being Vermentino and a sparking Prosecco style wine called Auguri. Raffaldini hosts public and private events throughout the year and is the definitive place for lovers of dry wines.

Raffaldini Winery is a beautiful, very nice winery. with great wine. The nice gentleman who did our tasting was very friendly and knowledgeable: I enjoyed the white wines very much and my husband liked the reds. We picked up almost a case. It’s a lovely to sit outside and enjoy wine, cheese and crackers and admire the view. Lovely cheeses and crackers for sale at a very reasonable cost. We will go back!
